1 Samuel 1:12-22

KJV 12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth. NIV 12 As she kept on praying to the LORD, Eli observed her mouth. KJV 13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. NIV 13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk KJV 14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee. NIV 14 and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.” KJV 15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. NIV 15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD. KJV 16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto. NIV 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.” KJV 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him. NIV 17 Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.” KJV 18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad. NIV 18 She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast. KJV 19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. NIV 19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the LORD and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah made love to his wife Hannah, and the LORD remembered her. KJV 20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD. NIV 20 So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I asked the LORD for him.” KJV 21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. NIV 21 When her husband Elkanah went up with all his family to offer the annual sacrifice to the LORD and to fulfill his vow, KJV 22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever. NIV 22 Hannah did not go. She said to her husband, “After the boy is weaned, I will take him and present him before the LORD, and he will live there always.”
