1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

CEB 1 We don't need to write to you about the timing and dates, brothers and sisters. NRS 1 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anything written to you. CEB 2 You know very well that the day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night. NRS 2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. CEB 3 When they are saying, "There is peace and security," at that time sudden destruction will attack them, like labor pains start with a pregnant woman, and they definitely won't escape. NRS 3 When they say, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and there will be no escape! CEB 4 But you aren't in darkness, brothers and sisters, so the day won't catch you by surprise like a thief. NRS 4 But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; CEB 5 All of you are children of light and children of the day. We don't belong to night or darkness. NRS 5 for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. CEB 6 So then, let's not sleep like the others, but let's stay awake and stay sober. NRS 6 So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober; CEB 7 People who sleep sleep at night, and people who get drunk get drunk at night. NRS 7 for those who sleep sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. CEB 8 Since we belong to the day, let's stay sober, wearing faithfulness and love as a piece of armor that protects our body and the hope of salvation as a helmet. NRS 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. CEB 9 God didn't intend for us to suffer his wrath but rather to possess salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. NRS 9 For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, CEB 10 Jesus died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with him. NRS 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him. CEB 11 So continue encouraging each other and building each other up, just like you are doing already. NRS 11 Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.
