1 Timothy 1:3-7

GNTA 3 I want you to stay in Ephesus, just as I urged you when I was on my way to Macedonia. Some people there are teaching false doctrines, and you must order them to stop. NIV 3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer GNTA 4 Tell them to give up those legends and those long lists of ancestors, which only produce arguments; they do not serve God's plan, which is known by faith. NIV 4 or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. GNTA 5 The purpose of this order is to arouse the love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a genuine faith. NIV 5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. GNTA 6 Some people have turned away from these and have lost their way in foolish discussions. NIV 6 Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. GNTA 7 They want to be teachers of God's law, but they do not understand their own words or the matters about which they speak with so much confidence. NIV 7 They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
