1 Así que el 15 de enero,<br /> durante el noveno año del reinado de Sedequías, Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, dirigió a todo su ejército contra Jerusalén. Rodearon la ciudad y construyeron rampas de asalto contra las murallas.

So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army. He encamped outside the city and built siege works all around it.
2 Jerusalén estuvo sitiada hasta el año once del reinado de Sedequías.

The city was kept under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.
3 Hacia el 18 de julio del año once del reinado de Sedequías,<br /> el hambre en la ciudad ya era muy intensa y se había agotado por completo lo último que quedaba de alimento.

By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine in the city had become so severe that there was no food for the people to eat.
4 Entonces abrieron una brecha en la muralla de la ciudad, y todos los soldados huyeron. Como la ciudad estaba rodeada por los babilonios,<br /> esperaron hasta la caída de sol y entonces se deslizaron por la puerta que está entre las dos murallas, detrás del jardín real, y se dirigieron al valle del Jordán.

Then the city wall was broken through, and the whole army fled at night through the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden, though the Babylonians were surrounding the city. They fled toward the Arabah,
5 Sin embargo, las tropas babilónicas<br /> persiguieron al rey y lo capturaron en las llanuras de Jericó, porque todos sus hombres lo habían abandonado y se habían dispersado.

but the Babylonian army pursued the king and overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his soldiers were separated from him and scattered,

and he was captured. He was taken to the king of Babylon at Riblah, where sentence was pronounced on him.

They killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. Then they put out his eyes, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.
8 Destrucción del templo<br />El 14 de agosto de ese año,<br /> que era el año diecinueve del reinado de Nabucodonosor, llegó a Jerusalén Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia y funcionario del rey babilónico.

On the seventh day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard, an official of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.

He set fire to the temple of the LORD, the royal palace and all the houses of Jerusalem. Every important building he burned down.

The whole Babylonian army under the commander of the imperial guard broke down the walls around Jerusalem.
11 Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, se llevó cautivas a las personas que quedaban en la ciudad, a los desertores que habían jurado lealtad al rey de Babilonia, y al resto de la población;

Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard carried into exile the people who remained in the city, along with the rest of the populace and those who had deserted to the king of Babylon.
12 pero el capitán de la guardia permitió que algunos de los más pobres quedaran en Judá para cuidar los viñedos y los campos.

But the commander left behind some of the poorest people of the land to work the vineyards and fields.
13 Los babilonios hicieron pedazos las columnas de bronce que estaban al frente del templo del Señor<br />, las carretas de bronce para llevar agua y el enorme tazón de bronce llamado el Mar, y se llevaron todo el bronce a Babilonia.

The Babylonians broke up the bronze pillars, the movable stands and the bronze Sea that were at the temple of the LORD and they carried the bronze to Babylon.
14 También se llevaron los recipientes para la ceniza, las palas, las despabiladeras de las lámparas, los platos y todos los demás objetos de bronce que se usaban para realizar los sacrificios en el templo.

They also took away the pots, shovels, wick trimmers, dishes and all the bronze articles used in the temple service.

The commander of the imperial guard took away the censers and sprinkling bowls—all that were made of pure gold or silver.
16 El peso del bronce de las dos columnas, el Mar y las carretas para llevar agua era tanto que no podía calcularse. Estos objetos se habían hecho para el templo del Señor<br /> en tiempos del rey Salomón.

The bronze from the two pillars, the Sea and the movable stands, which Solomon had made for the temple of the LORD, was more than could be weighed.

Each pillar was eighteen cubits high. The bronze capital on top of one pillar was three cubits high and was decorated with a network and pomegranates of bronze all around. The other pillar, with its network, was similar.

The commander of the guard took as prisoners Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest next in rank and the three doorkeepers.
19 De la gente que seguía escondida en la ciudad, se llevó a un oficial que había estado al mando del ejército judío, a cinco de los consejeros personales del rey, al secretario principal del comandante del ejército, quien estaba a cargo del reclutamiento, y a otros sesenta ciudadanos.

Of those still in the city, he took the officer in charge of the fighting men, and five royal advisers. He also took the secretary who was chief officer in charge of conscripting the people of the land and sixty of the conscripts who were found in the city.
20 Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, los llevó a todos ante el rey de Babilonia, que se encontraba en Ribla.

Nebuzaradan the commander took them all and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.
21 Allí, en Ribla, en la tierra de Hamat, el rey de Babilonia mandó que los ejecutaran a todos. Así que el pueblo de Judá fue expulsado de su tierra y llevado al destierro.

There at Riblah, in the land of Hamath, the king had them executed. So Judah went into captivity, away from her land.
22 Gedalías gobierna en Judá<br />Luego el rey Nabucodonosor nombró gobernador sobre la gente que había dejado en Judá a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam y nieto de Safán.

Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to be over the people he had left behind in Judah.
23 Cuando todos los comandantes del ejército y sus hombres se enteraron de que el rey de Babilonia había nombrado gobernador a Gedalías, fueron a verlo a Mizpa. En ese grupo estaban Ismael, hijo de Netanías; Johanán, hijo de Carea; Seraías, hijo de Tanhumet el netofatita y Jezanías,<br /> hijo del maacateo, junto con todos sus hombres.

When all the army officers and their men heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah as governor, they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah—Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan son of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, Jaazaniah the son of the Maakathite, and their men.
24 Gedalías les juró que los funcionarios babilónicos no querían hacerles ningún daño. «No les tengan miedo. Vivan en la tierra y sirvan al rey de Babilonia, y todo les irá bien», les prometió.

Gedaliah took an oath to reassure them and their men. “Do not be afraid of the Babylonian officials,” he said. “Settle down in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well with you.”
25 Después, a mediados del otoño de ese año,<br /> Ismael, hijo de Netanías y nieto de Elisama, quien era de la familia real, fue con diez hombres a Mizpa y mató a Gedalías. También mató a todos los judíos y babilonios que estaban con Gedalías en Mizpa.

In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was of royal blood, came with ten men and assassinated Gedaliah and also the men of Judah and the Babylonians who were with him at Mizpah.
26 Entonces toda la gente de Judá, desde el menos importante hasta el más importante, junto con los comandantes del ejército, huyeron despavoridos a Egipto, porque tenían miedo de lo que pudieran hacerles los babilonios.

At this, all the people from the least to the greatest, together with the army officers, fled to Egypt for fear of the Babylonians.
27 Esperanza para la descendencia real de Israel<br />En el año treinta y siete del exilio de Joaquín, rey de Judá, Evil-merodac ascendió al trono de Babilonia. El nuevo rey fue bondadoso con<br /> Joaquín y lo puso en libertad el 2 de abril de ese año.

In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Awel-Marduk became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. He did this on the twenty-seventh day of the twelfth month.
28 Le habló con amabilidad y le dio una posición superior a la de los demás reyes exiliados en Babilonia.

He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.

So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table.

Day by day the king gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived.
