11 And Hiram the king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons for walls: and they built a house for David.
11 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David.
12 And David knew that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom over his people Israel.
12 Then David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.
13 And David took more concubines and wives of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were born to David other sons also and daughters:
13 After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.
14 And these are the names of them, that were born to him in Jerusalem, Samua, and Sobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,
14 These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
15 And Jebahar, and Elisua, and Nepheg,
15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,
16 And Japhia, and Elisama, and Elioda, and Eliphaleth.
16 Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet.
17 And the Philistines heard that they had anointed David to be king over Israel: and they all came to seek David: and when David heard of it, he went down to a strong hold.
17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold.
18 And the Philistines coming spread themselves in the valley of Raphaim.
18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim;
19 And David consulted the Lord, Saying: Shall I go up to the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to David: Go up, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into thy hand.
19 so David inquired of the LORD, “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”
20 And David came to Baal Pharisim: and defeated them there, and he said, The Lord hath divided my enemies before me, as waters are divided. Therefore the name of the place was called Baal Pharisim.
20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, the LORD has broken out against my enemies before me.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.
21 And they left there their idols: which David and his men took away.
21 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.
22 And the Philistines came up again and spread themselves into the valley of Raphaim.
22 Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim;
23 And David consulted the Lord: Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into my hands? He answered: Go not up against them but fetch a compass behind them, and thou shalt come upon them over against the pear trees.
23 so David inquired of the LORD, and he answered, “Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.
24 And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear trees, then shalt thou join battle: for then will the Lord go out before thy face to strike the army of the Philistines.
24 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the LORD has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.”
25 And David did as the Lord had commanded him, and he smote the Philistines from Gabaa until thou come to Gezer.
25 So David did as the LORD commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.
