2 Chronicles 17

RHE 1 And Josaphat his son reigned in his stead, and grew strong against Israel. NIV 1 Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king and strengthened himself against Israel. RHE 2 And he placed numbers of soldiers in all the fortified cities of Juda. And he put garrisons in the land of Juda, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken. NIV 2 He stationed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah and put garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured. RHE 3 And the Lord was with Josaphat, because he walked in the first ways of David his father: and trusted not in Baalim, NIV 3 The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David before him. He did not consult the Baals RHE 4 But in the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not according to the sins of Israel. NIV 4 but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel. RHE 5 And the Lord established the kingdom in his hand, and all Juda brought presents to Josaphat: and he acquired immense riches, and much glory. NIV 5 The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor. RHE 6 And when his heart had taken courage for the ways of the Lord, he took away also the high places and the groves out of Juda. NIV 6 His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah. RHE 7 And in the third year of his reign, he sent of his princes Benhail, and Abdias, and Zacharias, and Nathanael, and Micheas, to teach in the cites of Juda: NIV 7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah. RHE 8 And with them the Levites, Semeias, and Nathanias, and Zabadias, and Asael, and Semiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonias, and Tobias, and Thobadonias Levites, and with them Elisama, and Joram priests. NIV 8 With them were certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah—and the priests Elishama and Jehoram. RHE 9 And they taught the people in Juda, having with them the book of the law of the Lord: and they went about all the cities of Juda, and instructed the people. NIV 9 They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people. RHE 10 And the fear of the Lord came upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Juda, and they durst not make war against Josaphat. NIV 10 The fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not go to war against Jehoshaphat. RHE 11 The Philistines also brought presents to Josaphat, and tribute in silver, and the Arabians brought him cattle, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and as many he goats. NIV 11 Some Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs brought him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred goats. RHE 12 And Josaphat grew, and became exceeding great: and he built in Juda houses like towers, and walled cities. NIV 12 Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah RHE 13 And he prepared many works in the cities of Juda: and he had warriors, and valiant men in Jerusalem. NIV 13 and had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced fighting men in Jerusalem. RHE 14 Of whom this is the number of the houses and families of every one: in Juda captains of the army, Ednas the chief, and with him three hundred thousand most valiant men. NIV 14 Their enrollment by families was as follows: From Judah, commanders of units of 1,000: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 fighting men; RHE 15 After him Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand. NIV 15 next, Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000; RHE 16 And after him was Amasias the son of Zechri, consecrated to the Lord, and with him were two hundred thousand valiant men. NIV 16 next, Amasiah son of Zikri, who volunteered himself for the service of the LORD, with 200,000. RHE 17 After him was Eliada valiant in battle, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield. NIV 17 From Benjamin: Eliada, a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields; RHE 18 After him also was Jozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready for war. NIV 18 next, Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle. RHE 19 All these were at the hand of the king, beside others, whom he had put in the walled cities, in all Juda. NIV 19 These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
