2 Corinthians 4

CEB 1 This is why we don't get discouraged, given that we received this ministry in the same way that we received God's mercy. NRS 1 Therefore, since it is by God's mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. CEB 2 Instead, we reject secrecy and shameful actions. We don't use deception, and we don't tamper with God's word. Instead, we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God by the public announcement of the truth. NRS 2 We have renounced the shameful things that one hides; we refuse to practice cunning or to falsify God's word; but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. CEB 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are on the road to destruction. NRS 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. CEB 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of those who don't have faith so they couldn't see the light of the gospel that reveals Christ's glory. Christ is the image of God. NRS 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. CEB 5 We don't preach about ourselves. Instead, we preach about Jesus Christ as Lord, and we describe ourselves as your slaves for Jesus' sake. NRS 5 For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus' sake. CEB 6 God said that light should shine out of the darkness. He is the same one who shone in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Jesus Christ. NRS 6 For it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. CEB 7 But we have this treasure in clay pots so that the awesome power belongs to God and doesn't come from us. NRS 7 But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. CEB 8 We are experiencing all kinds of trouble, but we aren't crushed. We are confused, but we aren't depressed. NRS 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; CEB 9 We are harassed, but we aren't abandoned. We are knocked down, but we aren't knocked out. NRS 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; CEB 10 We always carry Jesus' death around in our bodies so that Jesus' life can also be seen in our bodies. NRS 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. CEB 11 We who are alive are always being handed over to death for Jesus' sake so that Jesus' life can also be seen in our bodies that are dying. NRS 11 For while we live, we are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be made visible in our mortal flesh. CEB 12 So death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. NRS 12 So death is at work in us, but life in you. CEB 13 We have the same faithful spirit as what is written in scripture: I had faith, and so I spoke. We also have faith, and so we also speak. NRS 13 But just as we have the same spirit of faith that is in accordance with scripture—"I believed, and so I spoke"—we also believe, and so we speak, CEB 14 We do this because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus, and he will bring us into his presence along with you. NRS 14 because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. CEB 15 All these things are for your benefit. As grace increases to benefit more and more people, it will cause gratitude to increase, which results in God's glory. NRS 15 Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. CEB 16 So we aren't depressed. But even if our bodies are breaking down on the outside, the person that we are on the inside is being renewed every day. NRS 16 So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. CEB 17 Our temporary minor problems are producing an eternal stockpile of glory for us that is beyond all comparison. NRS 17 For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, CEB 18 We don't focus on the things that can be seen but on the things that can't be seen. The things that can be seen don't last, but the things that can't be seen are eternal. NRS 18 because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.
