2 Corinthians 9

NIRV 1 I don't need to write to you about giving to God's people. NIV 1 There is no need for me to write to you about this service to the Lord’s people. NIRV 2 I know how much you want to help. I have been bragging about it to the people in Macedonia. I have been telling them that since last year you who live in Achaia were ready to give. You are so excited that it has stirred up most of them to take action. NIV 2 For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action. NIRV 3 But I am sending the brothers. Then our bragging about you in this matter will have a good reason. You will be ready, just as I said you would be. NIV 3 But I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you in this matter should not prove hollow, but that you may be ready, as I said you would be. NIRV 4 Suppose people from Macedonia come with me and find out that you are not prepared. Then we, as well as you, would be ashamed of being so certain. NIV 4 For if any Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to say anything about you—would be ashamed of having been so confident. NIRV 5 So I thought I should try to get the brothers to visit you ahead of time. They will finish the plans for the large gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a gift that is freely given. It will not be given by force. NIV 5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you in advance and finish the arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a generous gift, not as one grudgingly given. NIRV 6 Here is something to remember. The one who plants only a little will gather only a little. And the one who plants a lot will gather a lot. NIV 6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. NIRV 7 You should each give what you have decided in your heart to give. You shouldn't give if you don't want to. You shouldn't give because you are forced to. God loves a cheerful giver. NIV 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. NIRV 8 And God is able to shower all kinds of blessings on you. In all things and at all times you will have everything you need. You will do more and more good works. NIV 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. NIRV 9 It is written, "They have spread their gifts around to poor people. Their good works continue forever." (Psalm 112:9) NIV 9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” NIRV 10 God supplies seed to the planter. He supplies bread for food. God will also supply and increase the amount of your seed. He will increase the results of your good works. NIV 10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. NIRV 11 You will be made rich in every way. Then you can always give freely. We will take your many gifts to the people who need them. And they will give thanks to God. NIV 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. NIRV 12 Your gifts meet the needs of God's people. And that's not all. Your gifts also cause many people to thank God. NIV 12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. NIRV 13 You have shown yourselves to be worthy by what you have given. So people will praise God because you obey him. That proves that you really believe the good news about Christ. They will also praise God because you share freely with them and with everyone else. NIV 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. NIRV 14 Their hearts will be filled with longing for you when they pray for you. God has given you grace that is better than anything. NIV 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. NIRV 15 Let us give thanks to God for his gift. It is so great that no one can tell how wonderful it really is! NIV 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
