2 Peter 1

CEBA 1 From Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. To those who received a faith equal to ours through the justice of our God and savior Jesus Christ. NIV 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: CEBA 2 May you have more and more grace and peace through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. NIV 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. CEBA 3 By his divine power the Lord has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of the one who called us by his own honor and glory. NIV 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. CEBA 4 Through his honor and glory he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, that you may share the divine nature and escape from the world's immorality that sinful craving produces. NIV 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. CEBA 5 This is why you must make every effort to add moral excellence to your faith; and to moral excellence, knowledge; NIV 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; CEBA 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, endurance; and to endurance, godliness; NIV 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; CEBA 7 and to godliness, affection for others; and to affection for others, love. NIV 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. CEBA 8 If all these are yours and they are growing in you, they'll keep you from becoming inactive and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. CEBA 9 Whoever lacks these things is shortsighted and blind, forgetting that they were cleansed from their past sins. NIV 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. CEBA 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be eager to confirm your call and election. Do this and you will never ever be lost. NIV 10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, CEBA 11 In this way you will receive a rich welcome into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. NIV 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. CEBA 12 So I'll keep reminding you about these things, although you already know them and stand secure in the truth you have. NIV 12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. CEBA 13 I think it's right that I keep stirring up your memory, as long as I'm alive. NIV 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, CEBA 14 After all, our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I am about to depart from this life. NIV 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. CEBA 15 I'm eager for you always to remember these things after my death. NIV 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. CEBA 16 We didn't repeat crafty myths when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Quite the contrary, we witnessed his majesty with our own eyes. NIV 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. CEBA 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when a voice came to him from the magnificent glory, saying, "This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well-pleased." NIV 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” CEBA 18 We ourselves heard this voice from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. NIV 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. CEBA 19 In addition, we have a most reliable prophetic word, and you would do well to pay attention to it, just as you would to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NIV 19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. CEBA 20 Most important, you must know that no prophecy of scripture represents the prophet's own understanding of things, NIV 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. CEBA 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will. Instead, men and women led by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. NIV 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
