2 Peter 1

NAS 1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: NIV 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: NAS 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord ; NIV 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. NAS 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. NIV 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. NAS 4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust. NIV 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. NAS 5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, NIV 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; NAS 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, NIV 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; NAS 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. NIV 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. NAS 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NAS 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins. NIV 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. NAS 10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; NIV 10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, NAS 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. NIV 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. NAS 12 Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. NIV 12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. NAS 13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, NIV 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, NAS 14 knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. NIV 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. NAS 15 And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind. NIV 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. NAS 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. NIV 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. NAS 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased "- NIV 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” NAS 18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. NIV 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. NAS 19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. NIV 19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NAS 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, NIV 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. NAS 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. NIV 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
