2 Peter 1

RSVA 1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours in the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: NIV 1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: RSVA 2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. NIV 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. RSVA 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, NIV 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. RSVA 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature. NIV 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. RSVA 5 For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, NIV 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; RSVA 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, NIV 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; RSVA 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. NIV 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. RSVA 8 For if these things are yours and abound, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. RSVA 9 For whoever lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. NIV 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. RSVA 10 Therefore, brethren, be the more zealous to confirm your call and election, for if you do this you will never fall; NIV 10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, RSVA 11 so there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. NIV 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. RSVA 12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these things, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. NIV 12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. RSVA 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to arouse you by way of reminder, NIV 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, RSVA 14 since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. NIV 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. RSVA 15 And I will see to it that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. NIV 15 And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things. RSVA 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. NIV 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. RSVA 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased," NIV 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” RSVA 18 we heard this voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. NIV 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. RSVA 19 And we have the prophetic word made more sure. You will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NIV 19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. RSVA 20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, NIV 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. RSVA 21 because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. NIV 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
