2 Thessalonians 2

NCV 1 Brothers and sisters, we have something to say about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and the time when we will meet together with him. NIV 1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, NCV 2 Do not become easily upset in your thinking or afraid if you hear that the day of the Lord has already come. Someone may say this in a prophecy or in a message or in a letter as if it came from us. NIV 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. NCV 3 Do not let anyone fool you in any way. That day of the Lord will not come until the turning awayn from God happens and the Man of Evil, who is on his way to hell, appears. NIV 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. NCV 4 He will be against and put himself above anything called God or anything that people worship. And that Man of Evil will even go into God's Temple and sit there and say that he is God. NIV 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. NCV 5 I told you when I was with you that all this would happen. Do you not remember? NIV 5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? NCV 6 And now you know what is stopping that Man of Evil so he will appear at the right time. NIV 6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. NCV 7 The secret power of evil is already working in the world, but there is one who is stopping that power. And he will continue to stop it until he is taken out of the way. NIV 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. NCV 8 Then that Man of Evil will appear, and the Lord Jesus will kill him with the breath that comes from his mouth and will destroy him with the glory of his coming. NIV 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. NCV 9 The Man of Evil will come by the power of Satan. He will have great power, and he will do many different false miracles, signs, and wonders. NIV 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, NCV 10 He will use every kind of evil to trick those who are lost. They will die, because they refused to love the truth. (If they loved the truth, they would be saved.) NIV 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. NCV 11 For this reason God sends them something powerful that leads them away from the truth so they will believe a lie. NIV 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie NCV 12 So all those will be judged guilty who did not believe the truth, but enjoyed doing evil. NIV 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. NCV 13 Brothers and sisters, whom the Lord loves, God chose you from the beginning to be saved. So we must always thank God for you. You are saved by the Spirit that makes you holy and by your faith in the truth. NIV 13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. NCV 14 God used the Good News that we preached to call you to be saved so you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. NCV 15 So, brothers and sisters, stand strong and continue to believe the teachings we gave you in our speaking and in our letter. NIV 15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. NCV 16 NIV 16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, NCV 17 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father encourage you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. God loved us, and through his grace he gave us a good hope and encouragement that continues forever. NIV 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
