2 Timothy 2

HNV 1 You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Messiah Yeshua. NIV 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. HNV 2 The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. NIV 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. HNV 3 You therefore must endure hardship, as a good soldier of Messiah Yeshua. NIV 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. HNV 4 No soldier on service entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier. NIV 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. HNV 5 If also a man competes in the games, he is not crowned, unless he has competed by the rules. NIV 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules. HNV 6 The farmers who labor must be the first to get a share of the crops. NIV 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. HNV 7 Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things. NIV 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this. HNV 8 Remember Yeshua the Messiah, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my Good News, NIV 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, HNV 9 in which I suffer hardship to bonds, as a criminal. But God's word isn't bound. NIV 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. HNV 10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Messiah Yeshua with eternal glory. NIV 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. HNV 11 This saying is faithful: For if we died with him, we will also live with him. NIV 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; HNV 12 If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we will deny him, he also will deny us. NIV 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; HNV 13 If we are faithless, he remains faithful -- he can't deny himself. NIV 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. HNV 14 Remind them of these things, charging them in the sight of the Lord, that they don't argue about words, to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear. NIV 14 Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. HNV 15 Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn't need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth. NIV 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. HNV 16 But shun empty chatter, for they will proceed further in ungodliness, NIV 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. HNV 17 and their word will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; NIV 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, HNV 18 men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some. NIV 18 who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. HNV 19 However God's firm foundation stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness." NIV 19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” HNV 20 Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor. NIV 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. HNV 21 If a man therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master's use, prepared for every good work. NIV 21 Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. HNV 22 Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and shalom with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. NIV 22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. HNV 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife. NIV 23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. HNV 24 The Lord's servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient, NIV 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. HNV 25 in gentleness correcting those who oppose him; if perhaps God may give them repentance to the knowledge of the truth, NIV 25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, HNV 26 and they may recover themselves out of the devil's snare, having been taken captive by him to his will. NIV 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
