Exodus 40

DBY 1 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, NIV 1 Then the LORD said to Moses: DBY 2 On the day of the first month, on the first of the month, shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. NIV 2 “Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month. DBY 3 And thou shalt put in it the ark of the testimony, and shalt cover the ark with the veil. NIV 3 Place the ark of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain. DBY 4 And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it. And thou shalt bring in the candlestick and light its lamps. NIV 4 Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. DBY 5 And thou shalt set the golden altar for the incense before the ark of the testimony; and hang up the curtain of the entrance to the tabernacle. NIV 5 Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. DBY 6 And thou shalt set the altar of burnt-offering before the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. NIV 6 “Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; DBY 7 And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and shalt put water in it. NIV 7 place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it. DBY 8 And thou shalt fix the court round about, and hang up the curtain at the gate of the court. NIV 8 Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. DBY 9 And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is in it, and shalt hallow it, and all its utensils; and it shall be holy. NIV 9 “Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy. DBY 10 And thou shalt anoint the altar of burnt-offering, and all its utensils; and thou shalt hallow the altar, and the altar shall be most holy. NIV 10 Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy. DBY 11 And thou shalt anoint the laver and its stand, and hallow it. NIV 11 Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them. DBY 12 And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons near, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, and bathe them with water. NIV 12 “Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water. DBY 13 And thou shalt clothe Aaron with the holy garments, and anoint him, and hallow him, that he may serve me as priest. NIV 13 Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest. DBY 14 And thou shalt bring his sons near, and clothe them with vests. NIV 14 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics. DBY 15 And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may serve me as priests. And their anointing shall be to them an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations. NIV 15 Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue throughout their generations.” DBY 16 And Moses did so: as Jehovah had commanded him, so did he. NIV 16 Moses did everything just as the LORD commanded him. DBY 17 And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first of the month, that the tabernacle was set up. NIV 17 So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year. DBY 18 And Moses set up the tabernacle, and put in its bases, and fixed its boards, and put in its bars, and set up its pillars. NIV 18 When Moses set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts. DBY 19 And he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above over it; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. NIV 19 Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the LORD commanded him. DBY 20 And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and put the staves in the ark, and put the mercy-seat above on the ark. NIV 20 He took the tablets of the covenant law and placed them in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it. DBY 21 And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and hung up the veil of separation, and covered the ark of the testimony; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. NIV 21 Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the covenant law, as the LORD commanded him. DBY 22 And he put the table in the tent of meeting, on the side of the tabernacle northward, outside the veil, NIV 22 Moses placed the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain DBY 23 and arranged the bread in order upon it before Jehovah; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. NIV 23 and set out the bread on it before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him. DBY 24 And he put the candlestick in the tent of meeting, opposite to the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward. NIV 24 He placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle DBY 25 And he lighted the lamps before Jehovah; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. NIV 25 and set up the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him. DBY 26 And he put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil. NIV 26 Moses placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the curtain DBY 27 And he burnt on it fragrant incense; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. NIV 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the LORD commanded him. DBY 28 And he hung up the curtain of the entrance to the tabernacle. NIV 28 Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. DBY 29 And he put the altar of burnt-offering at the entrance to the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt-offering and the oblation; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. NIV 29 He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the LORD commanded him. DBY 30 And he set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing. NIV 30 He placed the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing, DBY 31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet out of it: NIV 31 and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet. DBY 32 when they went into the tent of meeting, and when they drew near to the altar, they washed; as Jehovah had commanded Moses. NIV 32 They washed whenever they entered the tent of meeting or approached the altar, as the LORD commanded Moses. DBY 33 And he set up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the curtain of the gate of the court. And so Moses finished the work. NIV 33 Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work. DBY 34 And the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. NIV 34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. DBY 35 And Moses could not enter into the tent of meeting, for the cloud abode on it, and the glory of Jehovah filled the tabernacle. NIV 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. DBY 36 And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel journeyed in all their journeys. NIV 36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; DBY 37 And if the cloud were not taken up, then they did not journey until the day that it was taken up. NIV 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. DBY 38 For the cloud of Jehovah was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, before the eyes of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. NIV 38 So the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.
