1 Venganza contra Siquem<br />Cierto día, Dina, la hija de Jacob y Lea, fue a visitar a unas jóvenes que vivían en la región.

Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land.
2 Cuando el príncipe del lugar, Siquem, hijo de Hamor el heveo, vio a Dina, la tomó a la fuerza y la violó.

When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and raped her.
3 Sin embargo, luego se enamoró de ella e intentó ganarse su cariño con palabras tiernas.

His heart was drawn to Dinah daughter of Jacob; he loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her.
4 Le dijo a su padre Hamor: «Consígueme a esta joven pues quiero casarme con ella».

And Shechem said to his father Hamor, “Get me this girl as my wife.”
5 Entonces Jacob se enteró de que Siquem había deshonrado a su hija Dina, pero como sus hijos estaban en el campo cuidando sus animales, él no dijo nada hasta que regresaron.

When Jacob heard that his daughter Dinah had been defiled, his sons were in the fields with his livestock; so he did nothing about it until they came home.
6 Hamor, el padre de Siquem, fue a hablar del asunto con Jacob.

Then Shechem’s father Hamor went out to talk with Jacob.
7 Mientras tanto, los hijos de Jacob, al enterarse de lo ocurrido, regresaron del campo de inmediato. Quedaron horrorizados y llenos de furia cuando supieron que su hermana había sido violada. Siquem había cometido un acto vergonzoso contra la familia de Jacob,<br /> algo que nunca debió haber hecho.

Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked and furious, because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in Israel by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.
8 Hamor habló con Jacob y con sus hijos:<br />—Mi hijo Siquem está verdaderamente enamorado de su hija —dijo—. Por favor, permítanle casarse con ella.

But Hamor said to them, “My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. Please give her to him as his wife.
9 De hecho, formemos también otros matrimonios: ustedes nos entregan a sus hijas para nuestros hijos, y nosotros les entregaremos a nuestras hijas para los hijos de ustedes.

Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.
10 Todos ustedes pueden vivir entre nosotros; ¡la tierra está a su disposición! Establézcanse aquí y comercien con nosotros, y siéntanse en libertad de comprar propiedades en la región.

You can settle among us; the land is open to you. Live in it, trade in it, and acquire property in it.”
11 El propio Siquem también habló con el padre de Dina y con sus hermanos:<br />—Por favor, sean bondadosos conmigo y permitan que me case con ella —les suplicó—. Yo les daré cualquier cosa que me pidan.

Then Shechem said to Dinah’s father and brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and I will give you whatever you ask.
12 Sea cual fuere la dote o el regalo que exijan, lo pagaré de buena gana; solo les pido que me entreguen a la muchacha como esposa.

Make the price for the bride and the gift I am to bring as great as you like, and I’ll pay whatever you ask me. Only give me the young woman as my wife.”
13 Pero como Siquem había deshonrado a la hermana de ellos, Dina, los hijos de Jacob respondieron con engaño a Siquem y a Hamor, su padre.

Because their sister Dinah had been defiled, Jacob’s sons replied deceitfully as they spoke to Shechem and his father Hamor.
14 Les dijeron:<br />—De ninguna manera podemos permitirlo, porque tú no has sido circuncidado. ¡Sería una vergüenza para nuestra hermana casarse con un hombre como tú!

They said to them, “We can’t do such a thing; we can’t give our sister to a man who is not circumcised. That would be a disgrace to us.
15 Pero hay una solución. Si todos los varones entre ustedes se circuncidan, como lo hicimos nosotros,

We will enter into an agreement with you on one condition only: that you become like us by circumcising all your males.
16 entonces les entregaremos a nuestras hijas y tomaremos a las hijas de ustedes para nosotros. Viviremos entre ustedes y seremos un solo pueblo;

Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves. We’ll settle among you and become one people with you.
17 pero si no aceptan circuncidarse, tomaremos a nuestra hermana y nos marcharemos.

But if you will not agree to be circumcised, we’ll take our sister and go.”
18 Hamor y su hijo Siquem aceptaron la propuesta.

Their proposal seemed good to Hamor and his son Shechem.
19 Siquem no demoró en cumplir con el requisito, porque deseaba con desesperación a la hija de Jacob. Siquem era un miembro muy respetado de su familia,

The young man, who was the most honored of all his father’s family, lost no time in doing what they said, because he was delighted with Jacob’s daughter.
20 y acompañó a su padre, Hamor, a presentar la propuesta a los líderes que estaban a las puertas de la ciudad.

So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city to speak to the men of their city.
21 Les dijeron: «Esos hombres son nuestros amigos. Invitémoslos a vivir entre nosotros y comerciemos libremente. Miren, hay suficiente tierra para mantenerlos. Podemos tomar a sus hijas como esposas y permitir que ellos se casen con las nuestras.

“These men are friendly toward us,” they said. “Let them live in our land and trade in it; the land has plenty of room for them. We can marry their daughters and they can marry ours.
22 Pero ellos aceptarán quedarse aquí y formar un solo pueblo con nosotros únicamente si nuestros hombres se circuncidan, como lo hicieron ellos.

But the men will agree to live with us as one people only on the condition that our males be circumcised, as they themselves are.
23 Además, si nosotros lo hacemos, todos sus animales y sus posesiones con el tiempo serán nuestros. Vamos, aceptemos sus condiciones y dejemos que se establezcan entre nosotros».

Won’t their livestock, their property and all their other animals become ours? So let us agree to their terms, and they will settle among us.”
24 Todos los hombres del consejo estuvieron de acuerdo con Hamor y Siquem, y todos los varones de la ciudad fueron circuncidados.

All the men who went out of the city gate agreed with Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male in the city was circumcised.
25 Sin embargo, tres días después, cuando aún estaban adoloridos, dos de los hijos de Jacob —Simeón y Leví—, que eran hermanos de Dina por parte de padre y de madre, tomaron sus espadas y entraron en la ciudad sin encontrar resistencia. Entonces masacraron a todos los varones,

Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male.
26 entre ellos Hamor y su hijo Siquem. Los mataron a espada, y después sacaron a Dina de la casa de Siquem y regresaron a su campamento.

They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword and took Dinah from Shechem’s house and left.
27 Mientras tanto, los demás hijos de Jacob llegaron a la ciudad. Al encontrar masacrados a los hombres, saquearon la ciudad, porque allí habían deshonrado a su hermana.

The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city where their sister had been defiled.
28 Se apoderaron de todos los rebaños, las manadas y los burros; se llevaron todo lo que pudieron, tanto de adentro de la ciudad como de los campos.

They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields.
29 Robaron todas las riquezas y saquearon las casas. También tomaron a todos los niños y a las mujeres, y se los llevaron cautivos.

They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children, taking as plunder everything in the houses.
30 Después, Jacob les dijo a Simeón y a Leví:<br />—¡Ustedes me han arruinado! Me han hecho despreciable ante todos los pueblos de esta tierra: los cananeos y los ferezeos. Nosotros somos tan pocos que ellos se unirán y nos aplastarán. ¡Me destruirán, y toda mi familia será aniquilada!

Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble on me by making me obnoxious to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed.”
31 —¿Pero cómo íbamos a permitir que él tratara a nuestra hermana como a una prostituta? —replicaron ellos, enojados.

But they replied, “Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?”
