Isaiah 2

CSB 1 The vision that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: NIV 1 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: CSB 2 In the last days the mountain of the Lord's house will be established at the top of the mountains and will be raised above the hills. All nations will stream to it, NIV 2 In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. CSB 3 and many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us about His ways so that we may walk in His paths." For instruction will go out of Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. NIV 3 Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. CSB 4 He will settle disputes among the nations and provide arbitration for many peoples. They will turn their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives. Nations will not take up the sword against [other] nations, and they will never again train for war. NIV 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. CSB 5 House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the Lord's light. NIV 5 Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD. CSB 6 For You have abandoned Your people, the house of Jacob, because they are full of [divination] from the East and of fortune-tellers like the Philistines. They are in league with foreigners. NIV 6 You, LORD, have abandoned your people, the descendants of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and embrace pagan customs. CSB 7 Their land is full of silver and gold, and there is no limit to their treasures; their land is full of horses, and there is no limit to their chariots. NIV 7 Their land is full of silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots. CSB 8 Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made. NIV 8 Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made. CSB 9 So humanity is brought low, and man is humbled. Do not forgive them! NIV 9 So people will be brought low and everyone humbled— do not forgive them. CSB 10 Go into the rocks and hide in the dust from the terror of the Lord and from His majestic splendor. NIV 10 Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from the fearful presence of the LORDand the splendor of his majesty! CSB 11 Human pride will be humbled, and the loftiness of men will be brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted on that day. NIV 11 The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. CSB 12 For a day belonging to the Lord of Hosts is [coming] against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up-it will be humbled- NIV 12 The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled), CSB 13 against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and lifted up, against all the oaks of Bashan, NIV 13 for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan, CSB 14 against all the high mountains, against all the lofty hills, NIV 14 for all the towering mountains and all the high hills, CSB 15 against every high tower, against every fortified wall, NIV 15 for every lofty tower and every fortified wall, CSB 16 against every ship of Tarshish, and against every splendid sea vessel. NIV 16 for every trading shipand every stately vessel. CSB 17 So human pride will be brought low, and the loftiness of men will be humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted on that day. NIV 17 The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, CSB 18 The idols will vanish completely. NIV 18 and the idols will totally disappear. CSB 19 People will go into caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, away from the terror of the Lord and from His majestic splendor, when He rises to terrify the earth. NIV 19 People will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from the fearful presence of the LORDand the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. CSB 20 On that day people will throw their silver and gold idols, which they made to worship, to the moles and the bats. NIV 20 In that day people will throw away to the moles and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship. CSB 21 They will go into the caves of the rocks and the crevices in the cliffs, away from the terror of the Lord and from His majestic splendor, when He rises to terrify the earth. NIV 21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from the fearful presence of the LORDand the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. CSB 22 Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. What is he really worth? NIV 22 Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?
