John 10

CJB 1 "Yes, indeed! I tell you, the person who doesn't enter the sheep-pen through the door, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. NIV 1 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. CJB 2 But the one who goes in through the gate is the sheep's own shepherd. NIV 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. CJB 3 This is the one the gate-keeper admits, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep, each one by name, and leads them out. NIV 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. CJB 4 After taking out all that are his own, he goes on ahead of them; and the sheep follow him because they recognize his voice. NIV 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. CJB 5 They never follow a stranger but will run away from him, because strangers' voices are unfamiliar to them." NIV 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” CJB 6 Yeshua used this indirect manner of speaking with them, but they didn't understand what he was talking to them about. NIV 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. CJB 7 So Yeshua said to them again, "Yes, indeed! I tell you that I am the gate for the sheep. NIV 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. CJB 8 All those who have come before me have been thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn't listen to them. NIV 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. CJB 9 I am the gate; if someone enters through me, he will be safe and will go in and out and find pasture. NIV 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. CJB 10 The thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, life in its fullest measure. NIV 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. CJB 11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. NIV 11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. CJB 12 The hired hand, since he isn't a shepherd and the sheep aren't his own, sees the wolf coming, abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf drags them off and scatters them. NIV 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. CJB 13 The hired worker behaves like this because that's all he is, a hired worker; so it doesn't matter to him what happens to the sheep. NIV 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. CJB 14 I am the good shepherd; I know my own, and my own know me -- NIV 14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— CJB 15 just as the Father knows me, and I know the Father -- and I lay down my life on behalf of the sheep. NIV 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. CJB 16 Also I have other sheep which are not from this pen; I need to bring them, and they will hear my voice; and there will be one flock, one shepherd. NIV 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. CJB 17 "This is why the Father loves me: because I lay down my life -- in order to take it up again! NIV 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. CJB 18 No one takes it away from me; on the contrary, I lay it down of my own free will. I have the power to lay it down, and I have the power to take it up again. This is what my Father commanded me to do." NIV 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” CJB 19 Again there was a split among the Judeans because of what he said. NIV 19 The Jews who heard these words were again divided. CJB 20 Many of them said, "He has a demon!" and "He's meshugga! Why do you listen to him?" NIV 20 Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?” CJB 21 Others said, "These are not the deeds of a man who is demonized -- how can a demon open blind people's eyes?" NIV 21 But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” CJB 22 Then came Hanukkah in Yerushalayim. It was winter, NIV 22 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, CJB 23 and Yeshua was walking around inside the Temple area, in Shlomo's Colonnade. NIV 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. CJB 24 So the Judeans surrounded him and said to him, "How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us publicly!" NIV 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” CJB 25 Yeshua answered them, "I have already told you, and you don't trust me. The works I do in my Father's name testify on my behalf, NIV 25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, CJB 26 but the reason you don't trust is that you are not included among my sheep. NIV 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. CJB 27 My sheep listen to my voice, I recognize them, they follow me, NIV 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. CJB 28 and I give them eternal life. They will absolutely never be destroyed, and no one will snatch them from my hands. NIV 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. CJB 29 My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no one can snatch them from the Father's hands. NIV 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. CJB 30 I and the Father are one." NIV 30 I and the Father are one.” CJB 31 Once again the Judeans picked up rocks in order to stone him. NIV 31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, CJB 32 Yeshua answered them, "You have seen me do many good deeds that reflect the Father's power; for which one of these deeds are you stoning me?" NIV 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” CJB 33 The Judeans replied, "We are not stoning you for any good deed, but for blasphemy -- because you, who are only a man, are making yourself out to be God [Hebrew: Elohim]." NIV 33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.” CJB 34 Yeshua answered them, "Isn't it written in your Torah, `I have said, "You people are Elohim' "?h NIV 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods” ’? CJB 35 If he called `elohim' the people to whom the word of Elohim was addressed (and the Tanakh cannot be broken), NIV 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— CJB 36 then are you telling the one whom the Father set apart as holy and sent into the world, `You are committing blasphemy,' just because I said, `I am a son of Elohim'? NIV 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? CJB 37 "If I am not doing deeds that reflect my Father's power, don't trust me. NIV 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. CJB 38 But if I am, then, even if you don't trust me, trust the deeds; so that you may understand once and for all that the Father is united with me, and I am united with the Father." NIV 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” CJB 39 One more time they tried to arrest him, but he slipped out of their hands. NIV 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. CJB 40 He went off again beyond the Yarden, where Yochanan had been immersing at first, and stayed there. NIV 40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, CJB 41 Many people came to him and said, "Yochanan performed no miracles, but everything Yochanan said about this man was true." NIV 41 and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.” CJB 42 And many people there put their trust in him. NIV 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.
