Joshua 1

LXX 1 And it came to pass after the death of Moses, that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Naue, the minister of Moses, saying, NIV 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: LXX 2 Moses my servant is dead; now then arise, go over Jordan, thou and all this people, into the land, which I give them. NIV 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. LXX 3 Every spot on which ye shall tread I will give it to you, as I said to Moses. NIV 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. LXX 4 The wilderness and Antilibanus, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, and as far as the extremity of the sea; your costs shall be from the setting of the sun. NIV 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. LXX 5 Not a man shall stand against you all the days of thy life; and as I was with Moses, so will I also be with thee, and I will not fail thee, or neglect thee. NIV 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. LXX 6 Be strong and 'quit thyself like a man, for thou shalt divide the land to this people, which I sware to give to your fathers. NIV 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. LXX 7 Be strong, therefore, and quit thyself like a man, to observe and do as Moses my servant commanded thee; and thou shalt not turn therefrom to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest be wise in whatsoever thou mayest do. NIV 7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. LXX 8 And the book of this law shall not depart out of thy mouth, and thou shalt meditate in it day and night, that thou mayest know how to do all the things that are written ; then shalt thou prosper, and make thy ways prosperous, and then shalt thou be wise. NIV 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. LXX 9 Lo! I have commanded thee; be strong and courageous, be not cowardly nor fearful, for the Lord thy God is with thee in all places whither thou goest. NIV 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” LXX 10 And Joshua commanded the scribes of the people, saying, NIV 10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: LXX 11 Go into the midst of the camp of the people, and command the people, saying, Prepare provisions; for yet three days and ye shall go over this Jordan, entering in to take possession of the land, which the Lord God of your fathers gives to you. NIV 11 “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you for your own.’ ” LXX 12 And to Ruben, and to Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasse, Joshua said, NIV 12 But to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said, LXX 13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, the Lord your God has caused you to rest, and has given you this land. NIV 13 “Remember the command that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you after he said, ‘The LORD your God will give you rest by giving you this land.’ LXX 14 Let your wives and your children and your cattle dwell in the land, which he has given you; and ye shall go over well armed before your brethren, every one of you who is strong; and ye shall fight on their side; NIV 14 Your wives, your children and your livestock may stay in the land that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, ready for battle, must cross over ahead of your fellow Israelites. You are to help them LXX 15 until the Lord your God shall have given your brethren rest, as also to you, and they also shall have inherited the land, which the Lord your God gives them; then ye shall depart each one to his inheritance, which Moses gave you beyond Jordan eastward. NIV 15 until the LORD gives them rest, as he has done for you, and until they too have taken possession of the land the LORD your God is giving them. After that, you may go back and occupy your own land, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you east of the Jordan toward the sunrise.” LXX 16 And they answered Joshua and said, We will do all things which thou commandest us, and we will go to every place whither thou shalt send us. NIV 16 Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. LXX 17 Whereinsoever we hearkened to Moses we will hearken to thee; only let the Lord our God be with thee, as he was with Moses. NIV 17 Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses. LXX 18 And whosoever shall disobey thee, and whosoever shall not hearken to thy words as thou shalt command him, let him die; but be thou strong and courageous. NIV 18 Whoever rebels against your word and does not obey it, whatever you may command them, will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!”
