Jude 1

JUB 1 Jude, slave of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those that are called, sanctified in God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ: NIV 1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: JUB 2 Mercy and peace and charity be multiplied unto you. NIV 2 Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. JUB 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you and exhort you that ye should earnestly persevere in the faith which was given once unto the saints. NIV 3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people. JUB 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares without fear or reverence of God, who from beforehand have been ordained unto this condemnation, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness and denying God who alone has dominion, and our Lord Jesus, the Christ. NIV 4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. JUB 5 I will, therefore, remind you, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those that did not believe. NIV 5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. JUB 6 And the angels who did not keep their first estate but left their own habitation, he has reserved in eternal chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. NIV 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. JUB 7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication and going after strange flesh, were set forth for an example, having received the judgment of eternal fire. NIV 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. JUB 8 In the same manner these deceived dreamers, defile their flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of higher powers. NIV 8 In the very same way, on the strength of their dreams these ungodly people pollute their own bodies, reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings. JUB 9 Yet when Michael, the archangel, contended with the devil, disputing over the body of Moses, he dared not bring against him a curse of judgment, but said, The Lord reprehend thee. NIV 9 But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” JUB 10 But these speak evil of those things which they do not know; but what they know by nature as animals without reason, in those things they corrupt themselves. NIV 10 Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them. JUB 11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward and perished in the gainsaying of Core. NIV 11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion. JUB 12 These are spots in your banquets of charity, feeding themselves without any fear whatsoever:clouds without water, carried to and fro of the winds; trees withered as in fall, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; NIV 12 These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead. JUB 13 raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own abominations; erratic stars, to whom is reserved gross darkness eternally. NIV 13 They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. JUB 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints NIV 14 Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones JUB 15 to execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have unfaithfully committed and of all the hard words which the unfaithful sinners have spoken against him. NIV 15 to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” JUB 16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own desires; and their mouth speaks arrogant things, admiring persons to take advantage. NIV 16 These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage. JUB 17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, NIV 17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. JUB 18 how that they told you, That in the last time there would be mockers, who would walk after their own ungodly desires. NIV 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” JUB 19 These are those who make divisions, and are as animals, not having the Spirit. NIV 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. JUB 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves upon your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, NIV 20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, JUB 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, unto eternal life, NIV 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. JUB 22 And receive some with mercy, discerning; NIV 22 Be merciful to those who doubt; JUB 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. NIV 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh. JUB 24 Now unto him that is powerful to keep you without sin and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, NIV 24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— JUB 25 to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, now and in all the ages. Amen. NIV 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
