Leviticus 1

NCV 1 The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the Meeting Tent, saying, NIV 1 The LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said, NCV 2 "Tell the people of Israel: 'When you bring an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from the herd or flock. NIV 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the LORD, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock. NCV 3 "'If the offering is a whole burnt offering from the herd, it must be a male that has nothing wrong with it. The person must take the animal to the entrance of the Meeting Tent so that the Lord will accept the offering. NIV 3 “ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the LORD. NCV 4 He must put his hand on the animal's head, and the Lord will accept it to remove the person's sin so he will belong to God. NIV 4 You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you. NCV 5 He must kill the young bull before the Lord, and Aaron's sons, the priests, must bring its blood and sprinkle it on all sides of the altar at the entrance to the Meeting Tent. NIV 5 You are to slaughter the young bull before the LORD, and then Aaron’s sons the priests shall bring the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar at the entrance to the tent of meeting. NCV 6 After that he will skin the animal and cut it into pieces. NIV 6 You are to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces. NCV 7 The priests, when they have put wood and fire on the altar, NIV 7 The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. NCV 8 are to lay the head, the fat, and other pieces on the wood that is on the fire of the altar. NIV 8 Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar. NCV 9 The animal's inner organs and legs must be washed with water. Then the priest must burn all the animal's parts on the altar. It is a whole burnt offering, an offering made by fire, and its smell is pleasing to the Lord. NIV 9 You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. NCV 10 "'If the burnt offering is a sheep or a goat from the flock, it must be a male that has nothing wrong with it. NIV 10 “ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep or the goats, you are to offer a male without defect. NCV 11 The person must kill the animal on the north side of the altar before the Lord, and Aaron's sons, the priests, must sprinkle its blood on all sides of the altar. NIV 11 You are to slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar. NCV 12 The person must cut the animal into pieces, and the priest must lay them, with the head and fat, on the wood that is on the fire of the altar. NIV 12 You are to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is burning on the altar. NCV 13 The person must wash the animal's inner organs and legs with water, and then the priest must burn all its parts on the altar. It is a whole burnt offering, an offering made by fire, and its smell is pleasing to the Lord. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. NCV 14 "'If the whole burnt offering for the Lord is a bird, it must be a dove or a young pigeon. NIV 14 “ ‘If the offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, you are to offer a dove or a young pigeon. NCV 15 The priest will bring it to the altar and pull off its head, which he will burn on the altar; the bird's blood must be drained out on the side of the altar. NIV 15 The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar. NCV 16 The priest must remove the bird's cropn and its contents and throw them on the east side of the altar, where the ashes are. NIV 16 He is to remove the crop and the feathers and throw them down east of the altar where the ashes are. NCV 17 Then he must tear the bird open by its wings without dividing it into two parts. He must burn the bird on the altar, on the wood which is on the fire. It is a whole burnt offering, an offering made by fire, and its smell is pleasing to the Lord. NIV 17 He shall tear it open by the wings, not dividing it completely, and then the priest shall burn it on the wood that is burning on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.
