Leviticus 19

LEB 1 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, NIV 1 The LORD said to Moses, LEB 2 "Speak to all the community of the {Israelites}, and say to them, 'You must be holy, because I, Yahweh your God, [am] holy. NIV 2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy. LEB 3 Each [of you] must revere your mother and your father, and you must keep my Sabbaths; I [am] Yahweh your God. NIV 3 “ ‘Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God. LEB 4 You must not turn to idols, and you must not make for yourselves gods of cast metal; I [am] Yahweh your God. NIV 4 “ ‘Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God. LEB 5 " 'And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to Yahweh, you must sacrifice it for your acceptance. NIV 5 “ ‘When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the LORD, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. LEB 6 It must be eaten on the day of your sacrifice and the next day; but the remainder must be burned up in the fire by the third day. NIV 6 It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up. LEB 7 And if it is indeed eaten on the third day, it [is] unclean meat; it shall not be regarded as accepted. NIV 7 If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted. LEB 8 And the one who eats it shall bear his guilt, because he has profaned Yahweh's holiness, and that person shall be cut off from his people. NIV 8 Whoever eats it will be held responsible because they have desecrated what is holy to the LORD; they must be cut off from their people. LEB 9 " 'And at your reaping the harvest of your land you must not finish reaping the edge of your field, and you must not glean the remnants of your harvest. NIV 9 “ ‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. LEB 10 And you must not glean your vineyard, and you must not gather your vineyard's fallen grapes; you must leave them behind for the needy and for the alien; I [am] Yahweh your God. NIV 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God. LEB 11 " 'You shall not steal, and you shall not deceive, and you shall not lie {to one another}; NIV 11 “ ‘Do not steal. “ ‘Do not lie. “ ‘Do not deceive one another. LEB 12 and you shall not swear {falsely} in my name, and so [one of] you profane the name of your God; I [am] Yahweh. NIV 12 “ ‘Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the LORD. LEB 13 " 'You shall not exploit your neighbor, and you shall not rob [him]; a hired worker's wage you shall not {withhold} overnight until morning. NIV 13 “ ‘Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. “ ‘Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight. LEB 14 You shall not curse [the] deaf, and you shall not put a stumbling block {before} a blind person, but you shall revere your God; I [am] Yahweh. NIV 14 “ ‘Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am the LORD. LEB 15 " 'You shall not do injustice in judgment; {you shall not show partiality to the powerless}; you shall not give preference {to the powerful}; you shall judge your fellow citizen with justice. NIV 15 “ ‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly. LEB 16 You shall not go [about with] slander among your people; {you shall not endanger your neighbor's life}; I [am] Yahweh. NIV 16 “ ‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people. “ ‘Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the LORD. LEB 17 " 'You shall not hate your brother in your heart; you shall surely rebuke your fellow citizen, so that you do not incur sin {along with} him. NIV 17 “ ‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt. LEB 18 You shall not seek vengeance, and you shall not harbor a grudge [against] {your fellow citizens}; and you shall love your neighbor like yourself; I [am] Yahweh. NIV 18 “ ‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. LEB 19 " 'You must keep my statutes: [as for] your domestic animals, you shall not cause two differing kinds to breed; [as for] your field, you shall not sow two differing kinds of seed; and, a garment of two differing kinds [of] woven material should not be worn on you. NIV 19 “ ‘Keep my decrees. “ ‘Do not mate different kinds of animals. “ ‘Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. “ ‘Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material. LEB 20 " 'And when a man lies with a woman [and there is] an emission of semen and she [is] a female slave promised to a man, but she indeed has not been ransomed or freedom has not be given to her, [there] shall be an obligation to compensate; they shall not be put to death, because she has not been freed. NIV 20 “ ‘If a man sleeps with a female slave who is promised to another man but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment. Yet they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed. LEB 21 And he shall bring his guilt offering to Yahweh at the tent of assembly's entrance: a ram [for] a guilt offering. NIV 21 The man, however, must bring a ram to the entrance to the tent of meeting for a guilt offering to the LORD. LEB 22 And the priest shall make atonement for him {before} Yahweh with the ram of the guilt offering for his sin that he {committed}, and so his sin that he {committed} shall be forgiven him. NIV 22 With the ram of the guilt offering the priest is to make atonement for him before the LORD for the sin he has committed, and his sin will be forgiven. LEB 23 " 'And when you have come into the land and you plant any tree for food, {you shall regard its fruit as unharvestable}; [for] three years it shall be forbidden for you; it shall not be eaten. NIV 23 “ ‘When you enter the land and plant any kind of fruit tree, regard its fruit as forbidden. For three years you are to consider it forbidden ; it must not be eaten. LEB 24 But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, offerings of praise for Yahweh. NIV 24 In the fourth year all its fruit will be holy, an offering of praise to the LORD. LEB 25 And in the fifth year you shall eat its fruit to increase its yield for you; I [am] Yahweh your God. NIV 25 But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way your harvest will be increased. I am the LORD your God. LEB 26 " 'You must not eat [anything] with the blood; you shall not practice divination, nor shall you interpret signs. NIV 26 “ ‘Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it. “ ‘Do not practice divination or seek omens. LEB 27 You shall not round off the corner [hair] of your head, and you shall not trim the corner of your beard. NIV 27 “ ‘Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. LEB 28 And you shall not make a slash in your body for a dead person, nor shall you make on yourselves a tattoo's mark; I [am] Yahweh. NIV 28 “ ‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD. LEB 29 " 'You shall not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, {lest the land be prostituted and the land fill up with depravity}. NIV 29 “ ‘Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness. LEB 30 You shall keep my Sabbaths, and you shall revere my sanctuary; I [am] Yahweh. NIV 30 “ ‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD. LEB 31 " 'You shall not turn to the mediums and to the soothsayers; you shall not seek [them] to become unclean with them; I [am] Yahweh your God. NIV 31 “ ‘Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. LEB 32 " '{Before} old age you shall get up, and you shall show respect for an old person; and you shall revere your God; I [am] Yahweh. NIV 32 “ ‘Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD. LEB 33 " 'And when an alien dwells with you in your land, you shall not oppress him. NIV 33 “ ‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. LEB 34 The alien who is dwelling with you shall be like a native among you, and you shall love him like yourself, because you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I [am] Yahweh your God. NIV 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God. LEB 35 " 'You shall not commit injustice in regulation, in measurement, in weight, or volume. NIV 35 “ ‘Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. LEB 36 You must have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin; I [am] Yahweh your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt. NIV 36 Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah and an honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt. LEB 37 " '[Thus] you shall keep all my statutes and all my regulations, and you shall do them; I [am] Yahweh.'" NIV 37 “ ‘Keep all my decrees and all my laws and follow them. I am the LORD.’ ”
