1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

The LORD said to Moses,
2 Command the sons of Israel that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.

“Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually.
3 Outside the veil of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the testimony, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually; <em>it shall be</em> a perpetual statute for <em>all</em> your ages.

Outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, Aaron is to tend the lamps before the LORD from evening till morning, continually. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.
4 He shall order the lamps upon the pure lampstand before the LORD continually.

The lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD must be tended continually.
5 And thou shalt take fine flour and bake twelve cakes thereof; each cake shall be of two-tenth deals.

“Take the finest flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf.
6 And thou shalt set them in two orders, six <em>in each</em> order, upon the clean table before the LORD.

Arrange them in two stacks, six in each stack, on the table of pure gold before the LORD.
7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon <em>each</em> order, that it may be on the bread for an aroma and incense unto the LORD.

By each stack put some pure incense as a memorial portion to represent the bread and to be a food offering presented to the LORD.
8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually: <em>an</em> everlasting covenant of the sons of Israel.

This bread is to be set out before the LORD regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant.
9 And it shall belong to Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in the holy place, for it <em>is</em> most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD on fire, by a perpetual statute.

It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in the sanctuary area, because it is a most holy part of their perpetual share of the food offerings presented to the LORD.”
10 In that season the son of an Israelite woman, whose father <em>was</em> an Egyptian, went out among the sons of Israel; and this son of the Israelite <em>woman</em> and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;

Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father went out among the Israelites, and a fight broke out in the camp between him and an Israelite.
11 and the Israelite woman’s son pronounced the Name and cursed; and they brought him unto Moses. And his mother’s name <em>was</em> Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.

The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name with a curse; so they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri the Danite.)
12 And they put him in ward that the mind of the LORD might be showed them.

They put him in custody until the will of the LORD should be made clear to them.
13 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

Then the LORD said to Moses:
14 Bring forth the one that has blasphemed outside the camp and let all that heard <em>him</em> lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

“Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him.
15 And thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, The man that speaks evil of his God shall bear his sin.

Say to the Israelites: ‘Anyone who curses their God will be held responsible;
16 And he that pronounces the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him; the same with the stranger as with the natural, if he pronounces the Name, he shall be put to death.

anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.
17 Likewise he that kills any man shall surely be put to death.

“ ‘Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death.
18 And he that kills an animal shall make it good: animal for animal.
18
Anyone who takes the life of someone’s animal must make restitution—life for life.
19 And if a man causes a blemish in his neighbour; as he has done, so shall it be done to him;

Anyone who injures their neighbor is to be injured in the same manner:
20 breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he has caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him <em>again</em>.

fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. The one who has inflicted the injury must suffer the same injury.
21 He that kills an animal shall restore it, but he that kills a man shall be put to death.

Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death.
22 Ye shall have one manner of law: as for the stranger, so shall it be for the natural; for I <em>am</em> the LORD your God.

You are to have the same law for the foreigner and the native-born. I am the LORD your God.’ ”
23 And Moses spoke to the sons of Israel that they should bring forth the one that had blasphemed out of the camp and stone him with stones. And the sons of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him. The Israelites did as the LORD commanded Moses.
