10 "One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.

Jesus went on to make these comments: If you're honest in small things, you'll be honest in big things;
11 If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?

If you're a crook in small things, you'll be a crook in big things.
12 And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?

If you're not honest in small jobs, who will put you in charge of the store?
13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."

No worker can serve two bosses: He'll either hate the first and love the second Or adore the first and despise the second. You can't serve both God and the Bank.
14 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.

When the Pharisees, a money-obsessed bunch, heard him say these things, they rolled their eyes, dismissing him as hopelessly out of touch.
15 And he said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

So Jesus spoke to them: "You are masters at making yourselves look good in front of others, but God knows what's behind the appearance. What society sees and calls monumental, God sees through and calls monstrous.
16 "The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.

God's Law and the Prophets climaxed in John; Now it's all kingdom of God - the glad news and compelling invitation to every man and woman.
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.

The sky will disintegrate and the earth dissolve before a single letter of God's Law wears out.
18 "Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

Using the legalities of divorce as a cover for lust is adultery; Using the legalities of marriage as a cover for lust is adultery.
