Luke 21

WBT 1 And he looked up, and saw rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. NIV 1 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. WBT 2 And he saw also a certain poor widow, casting in thither two mites. NIV 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. WBT 3 And he said, Of a truth I say to you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all. NIV 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. WBT 4 For all these have of their abundance cast in to the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had. NIV 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” WBT 5 And as some spoke of the temple, that it was adorned with goodly stones, and gifts, he said, NIV 5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said, WBT 6 [As for] these things which ye behold, the days will come, in which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down. NIV 6 “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.” WBT 7 And they asked him, saying, Master, but when will these things be? and what sign [will there be] when these things shall come to pass? NIV 7 “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” WBT 8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many will come in my name, saying, I am [Christ]; and the time draweth near: therefore go ye not after them. NIV 8 He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. WBT 9 But when ye shall hear of wars, and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass: but the end [is] not immediately. NIV 9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” WBT 10 Then said he to them, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: NIV 10 Then he said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. WBT 11 And great earthquakes will be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences: and fearful sights, and great signs will there be from heaven. NIV 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. WBT 12 But before all these they will lay their hands on you, and persecute [you], delivering [you] up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. NIV 12 “But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. WBT 13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony. NIV 13 And so you will bear testimony to me. WBT 14 Settle [it] therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer. NIV 14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. WBT 15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. NIV 15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. WBT 16 And ye will be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsmen, and friends; and [some] of you will they cause to be put to death. NIV 16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. WBT 17 And ye will be hated by all [men] for my name's sake. NIV 17 Everyone will hate you because of me. WBT 18 But there shall not a hair of your head perish. NIV 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. WBT 19 In your patience possess ye your souls. NIV 19 Stand firm, and you will win life. WBT 20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that its desolation is nigh. NIV 20 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. WBT 21 Then let them who are in Judea flee to the mountains; and let them who are in the midst of it depart [from it]; and let not them that are in the countries enter into it. NIV 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. WBT 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. NIV 22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. WBT 23 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that nurse infants in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. NIV 23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. WBT 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles shall be fulfilled. NIV 24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. WBT 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; NIV 25 “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. WBT 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for apprehension of those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. NIV 26 People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. WBT 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with power and great glory. NIV 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. WBT 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads: for your redemption draweth nigh. NIV 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” WBT 29 And he spoke to them a parable; Behold the fig-tree, and all the trees; NIV 29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. WBT 30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your ownselves that summer is now nigh at hand. NIV 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. WBT 31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. NIV 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. WBT 32 Verily I say to you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. NIV 32 “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. WBT 33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my word shall not pass away. NIV 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. WBT 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and [so] that day come upon you unawares. NIV 34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. WBT 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. NIV 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. WBT 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. NIV 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” WBT 37 And in the day-time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called [the mount] of Olives. NIV 37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives, WBT 38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, to hear him. NIV 38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.
