Matthew 19

NKJV 1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. NIV 1 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. NKJV 2 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there. NIV 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. NKJV 3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?" NIV 3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” NKJV 4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' NIV 4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ NKJV 5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? NIV 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? NKJV 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." NIV 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” NKJV 7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" NIV 7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” NKJV 8 He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. NIV 8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. NKJV 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery." NIV 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” NKJV 10 His disciples said to Him, "If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry." NIV 10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.” NKJV 11 But He said to them, "All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given: NIV 11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. NKJV 12 For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it." NIV 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.” NKJV 13 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. NIV 13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. NKJV 14 But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." NIV 14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” NKJV 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there. NIV 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there. NKJV 16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, "Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?" NIV 16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” NKJV 17 So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments." NIV 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” NKJV 18 He said to Him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not bear false witness,' NIV 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “ ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, NKJV 19 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' " NIV 19 honor your father and mother,’and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” NKJV 20 The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?" NIV 20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” NKJV 21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." NIV 21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” NKJV 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. NIV 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. NKJV 23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. NIV 23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. NKJV 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." NIV 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” NKJV 25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" NIV 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” NKJV 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." NIV 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” NKJV 27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, "See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?" NIV 27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” NKJV 28 So Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. NIV 28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. NKJV 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. NIV 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wifeor children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. NKJV 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first. NIV 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
