CEB 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, how will it become salty again? It's good for nothing except to be thrown away and trampled under people's feet. NRS 13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. CEB 14 You are the light of the world. A city on top of a hill can't be hidden. NRS 14 "You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. CEB 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on top of a lampstand, and it shines on all who are in the house. NRS 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. CEB 16 In the same way, let your light shine before people, so they can see the good things you do and praise your Father who is in heaven. NRS 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. CEB 17 “Don't even begin to think that I have come to do away with the Law and the Prophets. I haven't come to do away with them but to fulfill them. NRS 17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. CEB 18 I say to you very seriously that as long as heaven and earth exist, neither the smallest letter nor even the smallest stroke of a pen will be erased from the Law until everything there becomes a reality. NRS 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. CEB 19 Therefore, whoever ignores one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do the same will be called the lowest in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever keeps these commands and teaches people to keep them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. NRS 19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. CEB 20 I say to you that unless your righteousness is greater than the righteousness of the legal experts and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. NRS 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
