CEB 1 After the plague the LORD said to Moses and Eleazar, Aaron the priest's son: NIV 1 After the plague the LORD said to Moses and Eleazar son of Aaron, the priest, CEB 2 Take a census of the entire Israelite community, from 20 years old and above by their households, to determine everyone in Israel who is eligible for military service. NIV 2 “Take a census of the whole Israelite community by families—all those twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army of Israel.” CEB 3 Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke to the people on the plains of Moab by the Jordan opposite Jericho: NIV 3 So on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them and said, CEB 4 "Take a census of those 20 years old and above as the LORD commanded Moses." The Israelites who left the land of Egypt were: NIV 4 “Take a census of the men twenty years old or more, as the LORD commanded Moses.” These were the Israelites who came out of Egypt: CEB 5 Reuben, Israel's oldest son. Reuben's descendants: from Hanoch, the Hanochite clan; from Pallu, the Palluite clan; NIV 5 The descendants of Reuben, the firstborn son of Israel, were: through Hanok, the Hanokite clan; through Pallu, the Palluite clan; CEB 6 from Hezron, the Hezronite clan; from Carmi, the Carmite clan. The same Dathan and Abiram were the community officials who rebelled against Moses and Aaron and were among Korah’s followers when they rebelled against the LORD. CEB 10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, along with Korah, when the community died and fire devoured 250 persons. They became a warning sign. NIV 54 To a larger group give a larger inheritance, and to a smaller group a smaller one; each is to receive its inheritance according to the number of those listed. CEB 55 The land, however, will be apportioned by lot. They will inherit according to the names of their ancestral tribes. NIV 55 Be sure that the land is distributed by lot. What each group inherits will be according to the names for its ancestral tribe. CEB 56 Whether they are large or small, each tribe will inherit by means of the lot. NIV 62 All the male Levites a month old or more numbered 23,000. They were not counted along with the other Israelites because they received no inheritance among them. CEB 63 These are the ones whom Moses and Eleazar the priest enrolled. They enrolled the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan opposite Jericho. Not one of them remained, except Caleb, Jephunneh's son, and Joshua, Nun's son.
