NAS 1 Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. NIV 1 This is the account of the family of Aaron and Moses at the time the LORD spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai. NAS 2 These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. NIV 2 The names of the sons of Aaron were Nadab the firstborn and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. NIV 3 Those were the names of Aaron’s sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests. NAS 4 But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron. NIV 4 Nadab and Abihu, however, died before the LORD when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai. They had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron. NAS 5 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, NIV 5 The LORD said to Moses, NAS 6 "Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him. NIV 7 They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the tent of meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle. NAS 8 "They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the duties of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle. NIV 8 They are to take care of all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle. NAS 9 "You shall thus give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel. NIV 9 Give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to him. NAS 10 "So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that they may keep their priesthood, but the layman who comes near shall be put to death." NIV 10 Appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests; anyone else who approaches the sanctuary is to be put to death.” NAS 11 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, NIV 11 The LORD also said to Moses, NAS 12 "Now, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine. NIV 12 “I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are mine, NAS 13 "For all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the LORD ." NIV 13 for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, whether human or animal. I am the LORD.” NAS 14 Then the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, NIV 14 The LORD said to Moses in the Desert of Sinai, NAS 15 "Number the sons of Levi by their fathers' households, by their families; every male from a month old and upward you shall number."
