Numbers 3

YLT 1 And these [are] births of Aaron and Moses, in the day of Jehovah's speaking with Moses in mount Sinai. NIV 1 This is the account of the family of Aaron and Moses at the time the LORD spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai. YLT 2 And these [are] the names of the sons of Aaron: the first-born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar; NIV 2 The names of the sons of Aaron were Nadab the firstborn and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. YLT 3 these [are] the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whose hand he hath consecrated for acting as priest. NIV 3 Those were the names of Aaron’s sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests. YLT 4 And Nadab dieth -- Abihu also -- before Jehovah, in their bringing near strange fire before Jehovah, in the wilderness of Sinai, and sons they had not; and Eleazar -- Ithamar also -- acteth as priest in the presence of Aaron their father. NIV 4 Nadab and Abihu, however, died before the LORD when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai. They had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron. YLT 5 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, NIV 5 The LORD said to Moses, YLT 6 `Bring near the tribe of Levi, and thou hast caused it to stand before Aaron the priest, and they have served him, NIV 6 “Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest to assist him. YLT 7 and kept his charge, and the charge of all the company before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle; NIV 7 They are to perform duties for him and for the whole community at the tent of meeting by doing the work of the tabernacle. YLT 8 and they have kept all the vessels of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle; NIV 8 They are to take care of all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, fulfilling the obligations of the Israelites by doing the work of the tabernacle. YLT 9 and thou hast given the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are surely given to him out of the sons of Israel. NIV 9 Give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to him. YLT 10 `And Aaron and his sons thou dost appoint, and they have kept their priesthood, and the stranger who cometh near is put to death.' NIV 10 Appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests; anyone else who approaches the sanctuary is to be put to death.” YLT 11 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, NIV 11 The LORD also said to Moses, YLT 12 `And I, lo, I have taken the Levites from the midst of the sons of Israel instead of every first-born opening a womb among the sons of Israel, and the Levites have been Mine; NIV 12 “I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are mine, YLT 13 for Mine [is] every first-born, in the day of My smiting every first-born in the land of Egypt I have sanctified to Myself every first-born in Israel, from man unto beast; Mine they are; I [am] Jehovah.' NIV 13 for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, whether human or animal. They are to be mine. I am the LORD.” YLT 14 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, NIV 14 The LORD said to Moses in the Desert of Sinai, YLT 15 `Number the sons of Levi by the house of their fathers, by their families; every male from a son of a month and upward thou dost number them.' NIV 15 “Count the Levites by their families and clans. Count every male a month old or more.” YLT 16 And Moses numbereth them according to the command of Jehovah, as he hath been commanded. NIV 16 So Moses counted them, as he was commanded by the word of the LORD. YLT 17 And these are sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. NIV 17 These were the names of the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. YLT 18 And these [are] the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei. NIV 18 These were the names of the Gershonite clans: Libni and Shimei. YLT 19 And the sons of Kohath, by their families, [are] Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. NIV 19 The Kohathite clans: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. YLT 20 And the sons of Merari by their families [are] Mahli and Mushi; these are the families of the Levites, by the house of their fathers. NIV 20 The Merarite clans: Mahli and Mushi. These were the Levite clans, according to their families. YLT 21 Of Gershon [is] the family of the Libnite, and the family of the Shimite; these are the families of the Gershonite. YLT 22 Their numbered ones, in number, every male from a son of a month and upward, their numbered ones [are] seven thousand and five hundred. NIV 24 The leader of the families of the Gershonites was Eliasaph son of Lael. YLT 25 And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting [is] the tabernacle, and the tent, its covering, and the vail at the opening of the tent of meeting, NIV 25 At the tent of meeting the Gershonites were responsible for the care of the tabernacle and tent, its coverings, the curtain at the entrance to the tent of meeting, YLT 26 and the hangings of the court, and the vail at the opening of the court, which [is] by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and its cords, to all its service. YLT 27 And of Kohath [is] the family of the Amramite, and the family of the Izharite, and the family of the Hebronite, and the family of the Uzzielite; these are families of the Kohathite. NIV 27 To Kohath belonged the clans of the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites and Uzzielites; these were the Kohathite clans. YLT 28 In number, all the males, from a son of a month and upward, [are] eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary. NIV 28 The number of all the males a month old or more was 8,600. The Kohathites were responsible for the care of the sanctuary. YLT 29 The families of the sons of Kohath encamp by the side of the tabernacle southward. NIV 29 The Kohathite clans were to camp on the south side of the tabernacle. YLT 30 And the prince of a father's house for the families of the Kohathite [is] Elizaphan son of Uzziel. NIV 30 The leader of the families of the Kohathite clans was Elizaphan son of Uzziel. YLT 31 And their charge [is] the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary with which they serve, and the vail, and all its service. NIV 34 The number of all the males a month old or more who were counted was 6,200. NIV 35 The leader of the families of the Merarite clans was Zuriel son of Abihail; they were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle. YLT 36 And the oversight -- the charge of the sons of Merari -- [is] the boards of the tabernacle, and its bars, and its pillars, and its sockets, and all its vessels, and all its service, NIV 36 The Merarites were appointed to take care of the frames of the tabernacle, its crossbars, posts, bases, all its equipment, and everything related to their use, YLT 37 and the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords. NIV 37 as well as the posts of the surrounding courtyard with their bases, tent pegs and ropes. NIV 38 Moses and Aaron and his sons were to camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the sunrise, in front of the tent of meeting. They were responsible for the care of the sanctuary on behalf of the Israelites. Anyone else who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death. YLT 39 All those numbered of the Levites whom Moses numbered -- Aaron also -- by the command of Jehovah, by their families, every male from a son of a month and upward, [are] two and twenty thousand. NIV 39 The total number of Levites counted at the LORD’s command by Moses and Aaron according to their clans, including every male a month old or more, was 22,000. YLT 40 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Number every first-born male of the sons of Israel from a son of a month and upward, and take up the number of their names; NIV 40 The LORD said to Moses, “Count all the firstborn Israelite males who are a month old or more and make a list of their names. YLT 41 and thou hast taken the Levites for Me (I [am] Jehovah), instead of every first-born among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of every firstling among the cattle of the sons of Israel.' NIV 41 Take the Levites for me in place of all the firstborn of the Israelites, and the livestock of the Levites in place of all the firstborn of the livestock of the Israelites. I am the LORD.” YLT 42 And Moses numbereth, as Jehovah hath commanded him, all the first-born among the sons of Israel. NIV 42 So Moses counted all the firstborn of the Israelites, as the LORD commanded him. YLT 43 And all the first-born -- male -- by the number of names, from a son of a month and upward, of their numbered ones, are two and twenty thousand two hundred and seventy and three. NIV 43 The total number of firstborn males a month old or more, listed by name, was 22,273. NIV 45 “Take the Levites in place of all the firstborn of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites in place of their livestock. The Levites are to be mine. I am the LORD. YLT 46 `And [from] those ransomed of the two hundred and seventy and three (who are more than the Levites) of the first-born of the sons of Israel, NIV 46 To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites, YLT 47 thou hast even taken five shekels a-piece by the poll -- by the shekel of the sanctuary thou takest; twenty gerahs the shekel [is]; NIV 47 collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. YLT 48 and thou hast given the money to Aaron, and to his sons, whereby those over and above are ransomed.' NIV 48 Give the money for the redemption of the additional Israelites to Aaron and his sons.” YLT 49 And Moses taketh the ransom money from those over and above those ransomed by the Levites; NIV 49 So Moses collected the redemption money from those who exceeded the number redeemed by the Levites. YLT 50 from the first-born of the sons of Israel he hath taken the money, a thousand and three hundred and sixty and five -- by the shekel of the sanctuary; NIV 50 From the firstborn of the Israelites he collected silver weighing 1,365 shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel. YLT 51 and Moses giveth the money of those ransomed to Aaron, and to his sons, according to the command of Jehovah, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses. NIV 51 Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, as he was commanded by the word of the LORD.
