Psalm 139

LEB 1 O Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know [me]. NIV 1 You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. LEB 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought from afar. NIV 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. LEB 3 You search out my wandering and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. NIV 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. LEB 4 For [there is] not a word [yet] on my tongue, [but] behold, O Yahweh, you know it completely. NIV 4 Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely. LEB 5 You barricade me behind and in front, and set your hand upon me. NIV 5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. LEB 6 [Such] knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is set high; I cannot [prevail] against it. NIV 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. LEB 7 Where I can go from your Spirit, or where can I flee from your presence? NIV 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? LEB 8 If I ascend to heaven, there you [are], and if I make my bed [in] Sheol, look! [There] you [are]. NIV 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. LEB 9 If I lift up [the] wings of [the] dawn, [and] I alight on [the] far side of [the] sea, NIV 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, LEB 10 even there your hand would lead me, and your right hand would hold me fast. NIV 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. LEB 11 And if I should say, "Surely darkness will cover me, and [the] light around me [will be as] night," NIV 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” LEB 12 even [the] darkness is not too dark for you, and [the] night shines as the day-- the darkness [and] the light are alike [for you]. NIV 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. LEB 13 Indeed you created my {inward parts}; you wove me in my mother's womb. NIV 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. LEB 14 I praise you, because I am fearfully [and] wonderfully [made]. Wonderful [are] your works, and my soul knows [it] well. NIV 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. LEB 15 My {frame} was not hidden from you, when I was created secretly, [and] intricately woven in [the] depths of [the] earth. NIV 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. LEB 16 Your eyes saw my embryo, and in your book they all were written-- days fashioned [for me] when [there was] not one of them. NIV 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. LEB 17 And to me, how precious are your thoughts, O God; how vast is their sum. NIV 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! LEB 18 If I should count them, they would outnumber [the] sand. I awaken, and I [am] still with you. NIV 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. LEB 19 If only you would kill the wicked, O God-- so get away from me, [you] {bloodthirsty men}-- NIV 19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty! LEB 20 who speak against you deceitfully. Your enemies take [your name] in vain. NIV 20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name. LEB 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O Yahweh? And do I [not] loathe those who rise up against you? NIV 21 Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you? LEB 22 I hate them with a complete hatred; they have become my enemies. NIV 22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. LEB 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. NIV 23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. LEB 24 And see if [there is] in me {the worship of false gods}, and lead me in [the] way everlasting. NIV 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
