Psalm 50

NCV 1 The God of gods, the Lord, speaks. He calls the earth from the rising to the setting sun. NIV 1 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets. NCV 2 God shines from Jerusalem, whose beauty is perfect. NIV 2 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. NCV 3 Our God comes, and he will not be silent. A fire burns in front of him, and a powerful storm surrounds him. NIV 3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. NCV 4 He calls to the sky above and to the earth that he might judge his people. NIV 4 He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: NCV 5 He says, "Gather around, you who worship me, who have made an agreement with me, using a sacrifice." NIV 5 “Gather to me this consecrated people, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” NCV 6 God is the judge, and even the skies say he is right. Selah NIV 6 And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice. NCV 7 God says, "My people, listen to me; Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God. NIV 7 “Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God. NCV 8 I do not scold you for your sacrifices. You always bring me your burnt offerings. NIV 8 I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. NCV 9 But I do not need bulls from your stalls or goats from your pens, NIV 9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, NCV 10 because every animal of the forest is already mine. The cattle on a thousand hills are mine. NIV 10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. NCV 11 I know every bird on the mountains, and every living thing in the fields is mine. NIV 11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. NCV 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, because the earth and everything in it are mine. NIV 12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it. NCV 13 I don't eat the meat of bulls or drink the blood of goats. NIV 13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? NCV 14 Give an offering to show thanks to God. Give God Most High what you have promised. NIV 14 “Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, NCV 15 Call to me in times of trouble. I will save you, and you will honor me." NIV 15 and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” NCV 16 But God says to the wicked, "Why do you talk about my laws? Why do you mention my agreement? NIV 16 But to the wicked person, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? NCV 17 You hate my teachings and turn your back on what I say. NIV 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. NCV 18 When you see a thief, you join him. You take part in adultery. NIV 18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. NCV 19 You don't stop your mouth from speaking evil, and your tongue makes up lies. NIV 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. NCV 20 You speak against your brother and lie about your mother's son. NIV 20 You sit and testify against your brother and slander your own mother’s son. NCV 21 I have kept quiet while you did these things, so you thought I was just like you. But I will scold you and accuse you to your face. NIV 21 When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you. NCV 22 "Think about this, you who forget God. Otherwise, I will tear you apart, and no one will save you. NIV 22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you: NCV 23 Those people honor me who bring me offerings to show thanks. And I, God, will save those who do that." NIV 23 Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.”
