42 Et il nous a commandé de prêcher au peuple, et d'attester que c'est lui que Dieu a établi juge des vivants et des morts.

He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.
43 Tous les prophètes rendent de lui ce témoignage, que quiconque croit en lui, reçoit la rémission des péchés par son nom.

All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
44 Comme Pierre tenait encore ce discours, le Saint-Esprit descendit sur tous ceux qui écoutaient ce qu'il disait.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.
45 Et tous les fidèles circoncis, qui étaient venus avec Pierre, furent étonnés de ce que le don du Saint-Esprit était aussi répandu sur les Gentils;

The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.
46 Car ils les entendaient parler diverses langues, et glorifier Dieu.

For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,
47 Alors Pierre reprit: Quelqu'un peut-il refuser l'eau du baptême à ceux qui ont reçu le Saint-Esprit, aussi bien que nous?

“Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”
48 Et il commanda qu'on les baptisât au nom du Seigneur. Alors ils le prièrent de demeurer quelques jours avec eux.

So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
