1 Qué maravilloso es ser sabio,<br />poder analizar e interpretar las cosas.<br />La sabiduría ilumina el rostro de una persona,<br />suaviza la dureza de sus facciones.

2 La obediencia al rey<br />Obedece al rey porque lo juraste ante Dios.

3 No trates de evitar cumplir con tu deber ni te juntes con los que conspiran maldad, porque el rey puede hacer lo que se le antoje.

4 Sus órdenes tienen el respaldo de su gran poder. Nadie puede oponerse ni cuestionarlas.

5 Quienes lo obedezcan no serán castigados. Los sabios encontrarán el momento y la forma de hacer lo correcto,

6 pues hay un tiempo y un modo para cada cosa, incluso cuando uno está en apuros.

7 Además, ¿cómo puede uno evitar lo que no sabe que está por suceder?

8 Nadie puede retener su espíritu y evitar que se marche. Nadie tiene el poder de impedir el día de su muerte. No hay forma de escapar de esa cita obligatoria: esa batalla oscura. Y al enfrentarse con la muerte, la maldad no rescatará al malvado.

9 El malvado y el justo<br />He reflexionado mucho acerca de todo lo que ocurre bajo el sol, donde las personas tienen poder para herirse unas a otras.

10 He visto que hay malvados que reciben honores en su entierro. Sin embargo, eran los mismos que frecuentaban el templo, ¡y hoy se les alaba<br /> en la misma ciudad donde cometieron sus delitos! Eso tampoco tiene sentido.

11 Cuando no se castiga enseguida un delito, la gente siente que no hay peligro en cometer maldades.

12 Sin embargo, aunque una persona peque cien veces y siga gozando de muchos años de vida, yo sé que les irá mejor a los que temen a Dios.

13 Los malvados no prosperarán, porque no temen a Dios. Sus días nunca se prolongarán, como lo hacen las sombras del anochecer.

14 Y eso no es todo lo que carece de sentido en nuestro mundo. En esta vida, a las personas buenas se les suele tratar como si fueran malvadas, y a las malvadas, como si fueran buenas. ¡Eso no tiene ningún sentido!

15 Entonces sugiero que se diviertan, ya que en este mundo no hay nada mejor para la gente que comer, beber y disfrutar de la vida. De ese modo, tendrán algo de felicidad junto con todo el arduo trabajo que Dios les da bajo el sol.

16 Mientras buscaba la sabiduría y observaba las cargas que lleva la gente aquí en la tierra, descubrí que la actividad no cesa ni de día ni de noche.

17 Me di cuenta de que nadie puede descubrir todo lo que Dios está haciendo bajo el sol. Ni siquiera los más sabios lo descubren todo, no importa lo que digan.

1 Who is like the wise? Who knows the explanation of things? A person’s wisdom brightens their face and changes its hard appearance.

2 Obey the king’s command, I say, because you took an oath before God.

3 Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence. Do not stand up for a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases.

4 Since a king’s word is supreme, who can say to him, “What are you doing?”

5 Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm, and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure.

6 For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, though a person may be weighed down by misery.

7 Since no one knows the future, who can tell someone else what is to come?

8 As no one has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has power over the time of their death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

9 All this I saw, as I applied my mind to everything done under the sun. There is a time when a man lords it over others to his own hurt.

10 Then too, I saw the wicked buried—those who used to come and go from the holy place and receive praise in the city where they did this. This too is meaningless.

11 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong.

12 Although a wicked person who commits a hundred crimes may live a long time, I know that it will go better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him.

13 Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow.

14 There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless.

15 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.

16 When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the labor that is done on earth—people getting no sleep day or night—

17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot really comprehend it.
