1 »Si alguien roba un toro o una oveja, y lo mata o lo vende, deberá devolver cinco cabezas de ganado por el toro, y cuatro ovejas por la oveja.

2 »Si a alguien se le sorprende robando, y se le mata, su muerte no se considerará homicidio.

3 »Si se mata al ladrón a plena luz del día, su muerte se considerará homicidio.»El ladrón está obligado a restituir lo robado. Si no tiene con qué hacerlo, será vendido para restituir lo robado.

4 »Si el animal robado se halla en su poder y todavía con vida, deberá restituirlo doble, ya sea que se trate de un toro, un asno o una oveja.

5 »Si alguien apacienta su ganado en un campo o en una viña, y por dejar a sus animales sueltos ellos pastan en campo ajeno, el dueño del animal deberá reparar el daño con lo mejor de su cosecha.

6 »Si se prende fuego en pasto seco, y el fuego se propaga y quema algún trigal, o el trigo ya apilado, o algún campo sembrado, el que haya comenzado el fuego deberá reparar el daño.

7 »Si alguien deja dinero o bienes en la casa de un amigo, y esos bienes le son robados, el ladrón deberá devolver el doble, en caso de que lo atrapen.

8 »Si no se atrapa al ladrón, el dueño de la casa deberá comparecer ante los jueces para que se determine si no dispuso de los bienes del otro.

9 »En todos los casos de posesión ilegal, las dos partes deberán llevar el asunto ante los jueces. El que sea declarado culpable deberá restituir el doble a su prójimo, ya sea que se trate de un toro, o de un asno, o de una oveja, o de ropa, o de cualquier otra cosa perdida que alguien reclame como de su propiedad.

10 »Si alguien deja al cuidado de algún amigo suyo un asno, un toro, una oveja, o cualquier otro animal, y el animal muere, o sufre algún daño, o es robado sin que nadie lo vea,

11 el amigo del dueño jurará ante el SEÑOR no haberse adueñado de la propiedad de su amigo. El dueño deberá aceptar ese juramento, y el amigo no deberá restituirle nada.

12 »Si el animal le fue robado al amigo, este deberá indemnizar al dueño.

13 »Si el animal fue despedazado por una fiera, el amigo no tendrá que indemnizar al dueño si presenta como evidencia los restos del animal.

14 »Si alguien pide prestado un animal de algún amigo suyo, y el animal sufre algún daño, o muere, no estando presente su dueño, el que lo pidió prestado deberá restituirlo.

15 »Si el dueño del animal estaba presente, el que pidió prestado el animal no tendrá que pagar nada.»Si el animal fue alquilado, el precio del alquiler cubrirá la pérdida.

16 »Si alguien seduce a una mujer virgen que no esté comprometida para casarse, y se acuesta con ella, deberá pagarle su precio al padre y tomarla por esposa.

17 Aun si el padre se niega a entregársela, el seductor deberá pagar el precio establecido para las vírgenes.

18 »No dejes con vida a ninguna hechicera.

19 »Todo el que tenga relaciones sexuales con un animal será condenado a muerte.

20 »Todo el que ofrezca sacrificios a otros dioses, en vez de ofrecérselos al SEÑOR, será condenado a muerte.

21 »No maltrates ni oprimas a los extranjeros, pues también tú y tu pueblo fueron extranjeros en Egipto.

22 »No explotes a las viudas ni a los huérfanos,

23 porque si tú y tu pueblo lo hacen, y ellos me piden ayuda, yo te aseguro que atenderé a su clamor:

24 arderá mi furor y los mataré a ustedes a filo de espada. ¡Y sus mujeres se quedarán viudas, y sus hijos se quedarán huérfanos!

25 »Si uno de ustedes presta dinero a algún necesitado de mi pueblo, no deberá tratarlo como los prestamistas ni le cobrará intereses.

26 »Si alguien toma en prenda el manto de su prójimo, deberá devolvérselo al caer la noche.

27 Ese manto es lo único que tiene para abrigarse; no tiene otra cosa sobre la cual dormir. Si se queja ante mí, yo atenderé a su clamor, pues soy un Dios compasivo.

28 »No blasfemes nunca contra Dios, ni maldigas al jefe de tu pueblo.

29 »No te demores en presentarme las ofrendas de tus graneros y de tus lagares.»Tus hijos primogénitos serán para mí.

30 »También serán para mí tus toros y tus ovejas. Los dejarás con sus madres siete días, pero al octavo día me los entregarás.

31 »Ustedes serán mi pueblo santo.»No comerán la carne de ningún animal que haya sido despedazado por las fieras. Esa carne se la echarán a los perros.

1 “Whoever steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it must pay back five head of cattle for the ox and four sheep for the sheep.

2 “If a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed;

3 but if it happens after sunrise, the defender is guilty of bloodshed. “Anyone who steals must certainly make restitution, but if they have nothing, they must be sold to pay for their theft.

4 If the stolen animal is found alive in their possession—whether ox or donkey or sheep—they must pay back double.

5 “If anyone grazes their livestock in a field or vineyard and lets them stray and they graze in someone else’s field, the offender must make restitution from the best of their own field or vineyard.

6 “If a fire breaks out and spreads into thornbushes so that it burns shocks of grain or standing grain or the whole field, the one who started the fire must make restitution.

7 “If anyone gives a neighbor silver or goods for safekeeping and they are stolen from the neighbor’s house, the thief, if caught, must pay back double.

8 But if the thief is not found, the owner of the house must appear before the judges, and they must determine whether the owner of the house has laid hands on the other person’s property.

9 In all cases of illegal possession of an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any other lost property about which somebody says, ‘This is mine,’ both parties are to bring their cases before the judges. The one whom the judges declare guilty must pay back double to the other.

10 “If anyone gives a donkey, an ox, a sheep or any other animal to their neighbor for safekeeping and it dies or is injured or is taken away while no one is looking,

11 the issue between them will be settled by the taking of an oath before the LORD that the neighbor did not lay hands on the other person’s property. The owner is to accept this, and no restitution is required.

12 But if the animal was stolen from the neighbor, restitution must be made to the owner.

13 If it was torn to pieces by a wild animal, the neighbor shall bring in the remains as evidence and shall not be required to pay for the torn animal.

14 “If anyone borrows an animal from their neighbor and it is injured or dies while the owner is not present, they must make restitution.

15 But if the owner is with the animal, the borrower will not have to pay. If the animal was hired, the money paid for the hire covers the loss.

16 “If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife.

17 If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins.

18 “Do not allow a sorceress to live.

19 “Anyone who has sexual relations with an animal is to be put to death.

20 “Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD must be destroyed.

21 “Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt.

22 “Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless.

23 If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry.

24 My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives will become widows and your children fatherless.

25 “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest.

26 If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it by sunset,

27 because that cloak is the only covering your neighbor has. What else can they sleep in? When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.

28 “Do not blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people.

29 “Do not hold back offerings from your granaries or your vats.“You must give me the firstborn of your sons.

30 Do the same with your cattle and your sheep. Let them stay with their mothers for seven days, but give them to me on the eighth day.

31 “You are to be my holy people. So do not eat the meat of an animal torn by wild beasts; throw it to the dogs.
