1 Hòulái Móxī , Yàlún qù duì fǎlǎo shuō , Yēhéhuá Yǐsèliè de shén zhèyàng shuō , róng wǒde bǎixìng qù , zaì kuàngyĕ xiàng wǒ shǒu jié .

Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the wilderness.’ ”
2 Fǎlǎo shuō , Yēhéhuá shì shuí , shǐ wǒ tīng tāde huà , róng Yǐsèliè rén qù ne . wǒ bù rènshi Yēhéhuá , yĕ bùróng Yǐsèliè rén qù .

Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go.”
3 Tāmen shuō , Xībólái rén de shén yùjiàn le wǒmen . qiú nǐ róng wǒmen wàng kuàngyĕ qù , zǒu sān tiān de lùchéng , jìsì Yēhéhuá wǒmen de shén , miǎndé tā yòng wēnyì , dāobīng gōngjī wǒmen .

Then they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”
4 Āijí wàng duì tāmen shuō , Móxī , Yàlún , nǐmen wèishénme jiào bǎixìng kuàng gōng ne . nǐmen qù dān nǐmen de dànzi ba .

But the king of Egypt said, “Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor? Get back to your work!”
5 Yòu shuō , kàn nǎ , zhè dì de Yǐsèliè rén rújīn zhòngduō , nǐmen jìng jiào tāmen xiē xià dànzi .

Then Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working.”

That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and overseers in charge of the people:
7 Nǐmen bùkĕ zhào cháng bǎ cǎo gĕi bǎixìng zuò zhuān , jiào tāmen zìjǐ qù jiǎn cǎo .

“You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw.
8 Tāmen sùcháng zuò zhuān de shùmù , nǐmen réngjiù xiàng tāmen yào , yídiǎn bùkĕ jiǎnshǎo , yīnwei tāmen shì lǎnduò de , suǒyǐ hū qiú shuō , róng wǒmen qù jìsì wǒmen de shén .

But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’
9 Nǐmen yào bǎ gèng zhòng de gōngfu jiā zaì zhèxie rénshēn shàng , jiào tāmen laólù , bù tīng xū huǎng de yányǔ .

Make the work harder for the people so that they keep working and pay no attention to lies.”
10 Dū gōng de hé guān zhǎng chūlai duì bǎixìng shuō , fǎlǎo zhèyàng shuō , wǒ bù gĕi nǐmen cǎo .

Then the slave drivers and the overseers went out and said to the people, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you any more straw.
11 Nǐmen zìjǐ zaì nǎli néng zhǎo cǎo , jiù wàng nàli qù zhǎo ba , dàn nǐmen de gōng yídiǎn bùkĕ jiǎnshǎo .

Go and get your own straw wherever you can find it, but your work will not be reduced at all.’ ”
12 Yúshì bǎixìng sǎn zaì Āijí biàn dì , jiǎn suì jiē dàng zuò cǎo .

So the people scattered all over Egypt to gather stubble to use for straw.
13 Dū gōng de cuī zhe shuō , nǐmen yī tiān dàng wán yī tiān de gōng , yǔ xiānqián yǒu cǎo yíyàng .

The slave drivers kept pressing them, saying, “Complete the work required of you for each day, just as when you had straw.”
14 Fǎlǎo dū gōng de , zé dá tā suǒ paì Yǐsèliè rén de guān zhǎng , shuō , nǐmen zuòtiān jīntiān wèishénme méiyǒu zhào xiàng lái de shùmù zuò zhuān , wán nǐmen de gōngzuò ne .

And Pharaoh’s slave drivers beat the Israelite overseers they had appointed, demanding, “Why haven’t you met your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?”
15 Yǐsèliè rén de guān zhǎng jiù lái āi qiú fǎlǎo shuō , wèishénme zhèyàng daì nǐde púrén .

Then the Israelite overseers went and appealed to Pharaoh: “Why have you treated your servants this way?
16 Dū gōng de bù bǎ cǎo gĕi púrén , bìngqiĕ duì wǒmen shuō , zuò zhuān ba . kàn nǎ , nǐ púrén ái le dá , qíshí shì nǐ bǎixìng de cuò .

Your servants are given no straw, yet we are told, ‘Make bricks!’ Your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.”
17 Dàn fǎlǎo shuō , nǐmen shì lǎnduò de , nǐmen shì lǎnduò de , suǒyǐ shuō , róng wǒmen qù jìsì Yēhéhuá .

Pharaoh said, “Lazy, that’s what you are—lazy! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.’
18 Xiànzaì nǐmen qù zuò gōng ba , cǎo shì bù gĕi nǐmen de , zhuān què yào rú shǔ jiāo nà .

Now get to work. You will not be given any straw, yet you must produce your full quota of bricks.”
19 Yǐsèliè rén de guān zhǎng tīngshuō , nǐmen mĕi tiān zuò zhuān de gōngzuò yídiǎn bùkĕ jiǎnshǎo , jiù zhīdào shì zāoyù huòhuàn le .

The Israelite overseers realized they were in trouble when they were told, “You are not to reduce the number of bricks required of you for each day.”
20 Tāmen lí le fǎlǎo chūlai , zhèng yùjiàn Móxī , Yàlún zhàn zaì duìmiàn ,

When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them,
21 Jiù xiàng tāmen shuō , yuàn Yēhéhuá jiàn chá nǐmen , shīxíng pànduàn , yīn nǐmen shǐ wǒmen zaì fǎlǎo hé tā chénpú miànqián yǒu le chòu míng , bǎ dāo dì zaì tāmen shǒu zhōng shā wǒmen .

and they said, “May the LORD look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”
22 Móxī huí dào Yēhéhuá nàli , shuō , Zhǔ a , nǐ wèishénme kǔdaì zhè bǎixìng ne , wèishénme dǎfa wǒ qù ne .

Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Why, Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me?
23 Zì cóng wǒ qù jiàn fǎlǎo , fèng nǐde míng shuōhuà , tā jiù kǔdaì zhè bǎixìng , nǐ yídiǎn yĕ méiyǒu zhĕngjiù tāmen .

Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.”
