Genesis 29:16-26

GNTA 16 Laban had two daughters; the older was named Leah, and the younger Rachel. NIV 16 Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. GNTA 17 Leah had lovely eyes, but Rachel was shapely and beautiful. NIV 17 Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful. GNTA 18 Jacob was in love with Rachel, so he said, "I will work seven years for you, if you will let me marry Rachel." NIV 18 Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, “I’ll work for you seven years in return for your younger daughter Rachel.” GNTA 19 Laban answered, "I would rather give her to you than to anyone else; stay here with me." NIV 19 Laban said, “It’s better that I give her to you than to some other man. Stay here with me.” GNTA 20 Jacob worked seven years so that he could have Rachel, and the time seemed like only a few days to him, because he loved her. NIV 20 So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her. GNTA 21 Then Jacob said to Laban, "The time is up; let me marry your daughter." NIV 21 Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife. My time is completed, and I want to make love to her.” GNTA 22 So Laban gave a wedding feast and invited everyone. NIV 22 So Laban brought together all the people of the place and gave a feast. GNTA 23 But that night, instead of Rachel, he took Leah to Jacob, and Jacob had intercourse with her NIV 23 But when evening came, he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and Jacob made love to her. GNTA 24 (Laban gave his slave woman Zilpah to his daughter Leah as her maid.) NIV 24 And Laban gave his servant Zilpah to his daughter as her attendant. GNTA 25 Not until the next morning did Jacob discover that it was Leah. He went to Laban and said, "Why did you do this to me? I worked to get Rachel. Why have you tricked me?" NIV 25 When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?” GNTA 26 Laban answered, "It is not the custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older. NIV 26 Laban replied, “It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older one.
