1 Llamado de Abram<br />El Señor<br /> le había dicho a Abram: «Deja tu patria y a tus parientes y a la familia de tu padre, y vete a la tierra que yo te mostraré.

The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 Haré de ti una gran nación; te bendeciré y te haré famoso, y serás una bendición para otros.

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
3 Bendeciré a quienes te bendigan y maldeciré a quienes te traten con desprecio. Todas las familias de la tierra serán bendecidas por medio de ti».

I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
4 Entonces Abram partió como el Señor<br /> le había ordenado, y Lot fue con él. Abram tenía setenta y cinco años cuando salió de Harán.

So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.
5 Tomó a su esposa Sarai, a su sobrino Lot, y todas sus posesiones —sus animales y todas las personas que había incorporado a los de su casa en Harán— y se dirigió a la tierra de Canaán. Cuando llegaron a Canaán,

He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.
6 Abram atravesó la tierra hasta llegar a Siquem. Allí estableció el campamento, junto al roble de More. En aquel tiempo, los cananeos habitaban esa región.

Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land.
7 Entonces el Señor<br /> se le apareció a Abram y le dijo: «Daré esta tierra a tu descendencia».<br /> Y Abram edificó allí un altar y lo dedicó al Señor<br />, quien se le había aparecido.

The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.
8 Después Abram viajó hacia el sur y estableció el campamento en la zona montañosa, situada entre Betel al occidente, y Hai al oriente. Allí edificó otro altar y lo dedicó al Señor<br />, y adoró al Señor<br />.

From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.
9 Entonces Abram continuó viajando por tramos en dirección sur, hacia el Neguev.

Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.
10 Abram y Sarai en Egipto<br />En aquel tiempo, un hambre terrible azotó la tierra de Canaán y obligó a Abram a descender a Egipto, donde vivió como extranjero.

Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.
11 Al acercarse a la frontera de Egipto, Abram le dijo a su esposa Sarai: «Mira, tú eres una mujer hermosa.

As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are.
12 Cuando los egipcios te vean, dirán: “Ella es su esposa. ¡Matémoslo y entonces podremos tomarla!”.

When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live.
13 Así que, por favor, diles que eres mi hermana. Entonces me perdonarán la vida y me tratarán bien debido al interés que tienen en ti».

Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”
14 Efectivamente, cuando Abram llegó a Egipto, todos notaron la belleza de Sarai.

When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was a very beautiful woman.
15 Cuando los funcionarios del palacio la vieron, hablaron maravillas de ella al faraón, su rey, y llevaron a Sarai al palacio.

And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace.
16 Entonces el faraón le dio a Abram muchos regalos a causa de ella: ovejas, cabras, ganado, asnos y asnas, siervos y siervas, y camellos.

He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.
17 Pero el Señor<br /> envió plagas terribles sobre el faraón y sobre todos los de su casa debido a Sarai, la esposa de Abram.

But the LORD inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai.
18 Así que el faraón mandó llamar a Abram y lo reprendió severamente: «¿Qué me has hecho? —preguntó—. ¿Por qué no me dijiste que era tu esposa?

So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?
19 ¿Por qué dijiste: “Es mi hermana” y con esto me permitiste tomarla como esposa? Ahora bien, aquí tienes a tu esposa. ¡Tómala y vete de aquí!».

Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!”
20 Entonces el faraón ordenó a algunos de sus hombres que los escoltaran, y expulsó a Abram de su territorio junto con su esposa y todas sus pertenencias.

Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.
