1 Y fueron acabados los cielos y la tierra, y todo su ornamento.

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
2 Y acabó Dios en el día séptimo su obra que hizo, y reposó el día séptimo de toda su obra que había hecho.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
3 Y bendijo Dios al día séptimo, y lo santificó, porque en él reposó de toda su obra que había creado Dios en perfección.

Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
4 Estos <I>son</I> los orígenes de los cielos y de la tierra cuando fueron creados, el día que el SEÑOR Dios hizo la tierra y los cielos,

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.
5 y toda planta del campo antes que fuese en la tierra, y toda hierba del campo antes que naciese; porque el SEÑOR Dios aún no había hecho llover sobre la tierra, ni <I>aun había</I> hombre para que labrase la tierra;

Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,
6 Y <I>un</I> vapor subía de la tierra, que regaba toda la faz de la tierra.

but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
7 Formó, pues, El SEÑOR Dios al hombre <I>del</I> polvo de la tierra, y sopló en su nariz <I>el</I> aliento de vida; y fue el hombre un alma viviente.

Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
8 Y había plantado el SEÑOR Dios <I>un</I> huerto en Edén al oriente, y puso allí al hombre que formó.

Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
9 Había también hecho producir el SEÑOR Dios de la tierra todo árbol deseable a la vista, y bueno para comer, y el árbol de vida en medio del huerto, y el árbol de <I>la</I> ciencia del bien y del mal.

The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10 Y salía <I>un</I> río de Edén para regar el huerto, y de allí se repartía en cuatro cabezas.

A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.
11 El nombre del uno <I>era</I> Pisón; éste <I>es</I> el que cerca toda la tierra de Havila, donde hay oro;

The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.
12 y el oro de aquella tierra <I>es</I> bueno; <I>hay</I> allí <I>también</I> bedelio y piedra cornerina.

(The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.)
13 El nombre del segundo río <I>es</I> Gihón; éste <I>es</I> el que cerca toda la tierra de Etiopía.

The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.
14 Y el nombre del tercer río <I>es</I> Hidekel; éste <I>es</I> el que va hacia el oriente de Asiria. Y el cuarto río <I>es el</I> Eufrates.

The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15 Tomó, pues, el SEÑOR Dios al hombre, y le puso en el huerto de Edén, para que lo labrase y lo guardase.

The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
16 Y mandó el SEÑOR Dios al hombre, diciendo: De todo árbol del huerto comerás;

And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
17 mas del árbol de <I>la</I> ciencia del bien y del mal, no comerás de él; porque el día que de él comieres, morirás.

but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
18 Y dijo el SEÑOR Dios: No <I>es</I> bueno que el hombre esté solo; le haré ayuda que <I>esté</I> delante de él.

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
19 Formó, pues, el SEÑOR Dios de la tierra toda bestia del campo, y toda ave de los cielos, y las trajo a Adán, para que viese cómo les había de llamar; y todo lo que Adán llamó al alma viviente, es <I>ese</I> su nombre.

Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
20 Y puso Adán nombres a toda bestia y ave de los cielos, y a todo animal del campo; mas para Adán no halló ayuda que estuviese delante de él.

So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
21 Y el SEÑOR Dios hizo caer sueño sobre el hombre, y se adormeció; entonces tomó una de sus costillas, y cerró la carne en su lugar;

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.
22 y edificó el SEÑOR Dios la costilla que tomó del hombre, en mujer, y la trajo al hombre.

Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 Y dijo el hombre: Esta vez, hueso de mis huesos, y carne de mi carne; ésta será llamada Varona, porque del Varón fue tomada.

The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”
24 Por tanto, el varón dejará a su padre y a su madre, y se allegará a su mujer, y serán por una carne.

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
25 Y estaban ambos desnudos, Adán y su mujer, y no se avergonzaban.

Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
