1 Jacob bendice a Manasés y a Efraín<br />Cierto día, no mucho tiempo después, le avisaron a José: «A tu padre ya le queda muy poco tiempo de vida». Entonces José fue a visitarlo, y llevó con él a sus dos hijos, Manasés y Efraín.

Some time later Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim along with him.
2 Cuando José llegó, le dijeron a Jacob que su hijo José había venido a verlo. Entonces Jacob<br /> cobró fuerzas y se incorporó en su cama.

When Jacob was told, “Your son Joseph has come to you,” Israel rallied his strength and sat up on the bed.
3 Jacob le dijo a José:<br />—El Dios Todopoderoso<br /> se me apareció en la aldea de Luz, en la tierra de Canaán, y me bendijo

Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me
4 con estas palabras: “Te haré fructífero y multiplicaré tu descendencia. Haré de ti una multitud de naciones, y daré esta tierra de Canaán a tus descendientes<br /> como posesión perpetua”.

and said to me, ‘I am going to make you fruitful and increase your numbers. I will make you a community of peoples, and I will give this land as an everlasting possession to your descendants after you.’
5 »Ahora reclamo como hijos míos a estos dos muchachos tuyos, Efraín y Manasés, quienes nacieron aquí en la tierra de Egipto antes de que yo llegara. Ellos serán mis hijos, como lo son Rubén y Simeón.

“Now then, your two sons born to you in Egypt before I came to you here will be reckoned as mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine.
6 Pero cualquier otro hijo que te nazca en el futuro será tuyo, y heredará tierra dentro de los límites de los territorios de sus hermanos Efraín y Manasés.

Any children born to you after them will be yours; in the territory they inherit they will be reckoned under the names of their brothers.
7 »Hace mucho tiempo, cuando yo regresaba de Padán-aram, Raquel murió en la tierra de Canaán. Todavía íbamos en viaje y bastante lejos de Efrata (es decir, Belén). Con mucha tristeza, la enterré allí, junto al camino que va a Efrata.

As I was returning from Paddan, to my sorrow Rachel died in the land of Canaan while we were still on the way, a little distance from Ephrath. So I buried her there beside the road to Ephrath” (that is, Bethlehem).
8 Entonces Jacob miró a los dos muchachos.<br />—¿Son estos tus hijos? —preguntó.

When Israel saw the sons of Joseph, he asked, “Who are these?”
9 —Sí —le dijo José—, estos son los hijos que Dios me ha dado aquí en Egipto.<br />Y Jacob dijo:<br />—Acércalos más a mí, para que pueda bendecirlos.

“They are the sons God has given me here,” Joseph said to his father. Then Israel said, “Bring them to me so I may bless them.”
10 Jacob casi había perdido la vista debido a su avanzada edad y apenas podía ver. Entonces José le acercó a los muchachos, y Jacob los besó y los abrazó.

Now Israel’s eyes were failing because of old age, and he could hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to him, and his father kissed them and embraced them.
11 Entonces Jacob le dijo a José:<br />—Nunca pensé que volvería a ver tu rostro, ¡pero ahora Dios me ha permitido ver también a tus hijos!

Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see your face again, and now God has allowed me to see your children too.”
12 José retiró a los muchachos de las rodillas de su abuelo, y se inclinó con el rostro hacia el suelo.

Then Joseph removed them from Israel’s knees and bowed down with his face to the ground.
13 Después puso a los muchachos delante de Jacob. Con su mano derecha dirigió a Efraín hacia la mano izquierda de Jacob, y con su mano izquierda puso a Manasés a la mano derecha de Jacob.

And Joseph took both of them, Ephraim on his right toward Israel’s left hand and Manasseh on his left toward Israel’s right hand, and brought them close to him.
14 Pero Jacob cruzó sus brazos cuando los extendió para poner sus manos sobre la cabeza de los muchachos: es decir, puso su mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraín —aunque él era el menor— y su mano izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manasés, que era el hijo mayor.

But Israel reached out his right hand and put it on Ephraim’s head, though he was the younger, and crossing his arms, he put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, even though Manasseh was the firstborn.
15 Luego bendijo a José con las siguientes palabras:<br />«Que el Dios delante del cual caminaron<br />mi abuelo Abraham y mi padre Isaac<br />—el Dios que ha sido mi pastor<br />toda mi vida, hasta el día de hoy,

Then he blessed Joseph and said, “May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked faithfully, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,
16 el Ángel que me ha salvado de todo mal—<br />bendiga a estos muchachos.<br />Que ellos preserven mi nombre<br />y el nombre de Abraham y de Isaac.<br />Y que su descendencia se multiplique en gran manera<br />por toda la tierra».

the Angel who has delivered me from all harm —may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly on the earth.”
17 Pero José se molestó cuando vio que su padre puso la mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraín. Entonces José se la levantó para pasarla de la cabeza de Efraín a la cabeza de Manasés.

When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand on Ephraim’s head he was displeased; so he took hold of his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.
18 —No, padre mío —le dijo—. Este es el hijo mayor; pon tu mano derecha sobre su cabeza.

Joseph said to him, “No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.”
19 Pero su padre se negó a hacerlo.<br />—Ya lo sé, hijo mío, lo sé —respondió él—. Manasés también llegará a ser un gran pueblo, pero su hermano menor será aún más grande y de su descendencia se formarán una multitud de naciones.

But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations.”
20 Así que, aquel día, Jacob bendijo a los muchachos con esta bendición: «El pueblo de Israel usará el nombre de ustedes cuando impartan una bendición. Dirán: “Que Dios los haga tan prósperos como a Efraín y a Manasés”». De esta manera, Jacob puso a Efraín antes de Manasés.

He blessed them that day and said, “In your name will Israel pronounce this blessing: ‘May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’ ” So he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.
21 Entonces Jacob le dijo a José:<br />—Mira, yo estoy a punto de morir, pero Dios estará contigo y te llevará de regreso a Canaán, la tierra de tus antepasados.

Then Israel said to Joseph, “I am about to die, but God will be with you and take you back to the land of your fathers.
22 Y además de lo que les he dado a tus hermanos, te doy a ti una porción adicional de la tierra<br /> que tomé de los amorreos con mi espada y con mi arco.

And to you I give one more ridge of land than to your brothers, the ridge I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.”
