1 Purificación y llamado de Isaías<br />El año en que murió el rey Uzías,<br /> vi al Señor sentado en un majestuoso trono, y el borde de su manto llenaba el templo.

2 Lo asistían poderosos serafines, cada uno tenía seis alas. Con dos alas se cubrían el rostro, con dos se cubrían los pies y con dos volaban.

3 Se decían unos a otros:<br />«¡Santo, santo, santo es el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales!<br />¡Toda la tierra está llena de su gloria!».

4 Sus voces sacudían el templo hasta los cimientos, y todo el edificio estaba lleno de humo.

5 Entonces dije: «¡Todo se ha acabado para mí! Estoy condenado, porque soy un pecador. Tengo labios impuros, y vivo en medio de un pueblo de labios impuros; sin embargo, he visto al Rey, el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales».

6 Entonces uno de los serafines voló hacia mí con un carbón encendido que había tomado del altar con unas tenazas.

7 Con él tocó mis labios y dijo: «¿Ves? Este carbón te ha tocado los labios. Ahora tu culpa ha sido quitada, y tus pecados perdonados».

8 Después oí que el Señor preguntaba: «¿A quién enviaré como mensajero a este pueblo? ¿Quién irá por nosotros?».<br />—Aquí estoy yo —le dije—. Envíame a mí.

9 Y él me dijo:<br />—Bien, ve y dile a este pueblo:<br />“Escuchen con atención, pero no entiendan;<br />miren bien, pero no aprendan nada”.

10 Endurece el corazón de este pueblo;<br />tápales los oídos y ciérrales los ojos.<br />De esa forma, no verán con sus ojos,<br />ni oirán con sus oídos,<br />ni comprenderán con su corazón<br />para que no se vuelvan a mí en busca de sanidad.

11 Entonces yo dije:<br />—Señor, ¿cuánto tiempo durará esto?<br />Y él contestó:<br />—Hasta que sus ciudades queden vacías,<br />sus casas queden desiertas<br />y la tierra entera quede seca y baldía;

12 hasta que el Señor<br /> haya mandado a todos lejos<br />y toda la tierra de Israel quede desierta.

13 Si aún sobrevive una décima parte, un remanente,<br />volverá a ser invadida y quemada.<br />Pero así como el terebinto o el roble dejan un tocón cuando se cortan,<br />también el tocón de Israel será una semilla santa.

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.

2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.

3 And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.

7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

9 He said, “Go and tell this people: “ ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’

10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”

11 Then I said, “For how long, Lord?” And he answered: “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged,

12 until the LORD has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken.

13 And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”
