1 Futura invasión de los asirios<br />Luego el Señor<br /> me dijo: «Haz un letrero grande y escribe con claridad el siguiente nombre: Maher-shalal-hash-baz<br />».

2 Les pedí al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías, hijo de Jeberequías, ambos conocidos como hombres honrados, que fueran testigos de lo que yo hacía.

3 Después me acosté con mi esposa y ella quedó embarazada, y dio a luz un hijo. Y el Señor<br /> me dijo: «Ponle por nombre Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

4 Pues antes de que este hijo tenga edad suficiente para decir “papá” o “mamá”, el rey de Asiria se llevará la abundancia de Damasco y las riquezas de Samaria».

5 Entonces el Señor<br /> volvió a hablar conmigo y me dijo:

6 «Mi cuidado del pueblo de Judá es como el delicado fluir de las aguas de Siloé, pero ellos lo han rechazado. Se alegran por lo que les sucederá al<br /> rey Rezín y al rey Peka.

7 Por lo tanto, el Señor los arrollará con una poderosa inundación del río Éufrates,<br /> el rey de Asiria con toda su gloria. La inundación desbordará todos los canales

8 y cubrirá a Judá hasta la barbilla. Extenderá sus alas y sumergirá a tu tierra de un extremo al otro, oh Emanuel.

9 »Reúnanse, naciones, y llénense de terror.<br />Escuchen, todas ustedes, tierras lejanas:<br />prepárense para la batalla, ¡pero serán aplastadas!<br />Sí, prepárense para la batalla, ¡pero serán aplastadas!

10 Convoquen a sus asambleas de guerra, pero no les servirán de nada;<br />desarrollen sus estrategias, pero no tendrán éxito,<br />¡porque Dios está con nosotros!».

11 Un llamado a confiar en el Señor<br />El Señor<br /> me dio una firme advertencia de no pensar como todos los demás. Me dijo:

12 «No llames conspiración a todo, como hacen ellos,<br />ni vivas aterrorizado de lo que a ellos les da miedo.

13 Ten por santo en tu vida al Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales;<br />él es a quien debes temer.<br />Él es quien te debería hacer temblar.

14 Él te mantendrá seguro.<br />En cambio, para Israel y Judá<br />será una piedra de tropiezo;<br />una roca que los hace caer.<br />Y para el pueblo de Jerusalén<br />será una red y una trampa.

15 Muchos tropezarán y caerán<br />y no volverán a levantarse;<br />caerán en la trampa y serán capturados».

16 Preserva las enseñanzas de Dios;<br />confía sus instrucciones a quienes me siguen.

17 Yo esperaré al Señor<br />,<br />que se ha apartado de los descendientes de Jacob;<br />en él pondré mi esperanza.

18 Yo y los hijos que el Señor<br /> me ha dado servimos como señales y advertencias a Israel de parte del Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales, quien habita en su templo en el monte Sión.

19 Tal vez alguien les diga: «Preguntemos a los médiums y a los que consultan los espíritus de los muertos; con sus susurros y balbuceos nos dirán qué debemos hacer». Pero ¿acaso no deberá el pueblo pedirle a Dios que lo guíe? ¿Deberían los vivos buscar orientación de los muertos?

20 ¡Busquen las instrucciones y las enseñanzas de Dios! Quienes contradicen su palabra están en completa oscuridad.

21 Irán de un lugar a otro, fatigados y hambrientos. Y porque tienen hambre, se pondrán furiosos y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios. Levantarán la mirada al cielo

22 y luego la bajarán a la tierra, pero dondequiera que miren habrá problemas, angustia y una oscura desesperación. Serán lanzados a las tinieblas de afuera.

1 The LORD said to me, “Take a large scroll and write on it with an ordinary pen: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.”

2 So I called in Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah as reliable witnesses for me.

3 Then I made love to the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the LORD said to me, “Name him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.

4 For before the boy knows how to say ‘My father’ or ‘My mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.”

5 The LORD spoke to me again:

6 “Because this people has rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices over Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

7 therefore the Lord is about to bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates— the king of Assyria with all his pomp. It will overflow all its channels, run over all its banks

8 and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it, passing through it and reaching up to the neck. Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land, Immanuel !”

9 Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered! Listen, all you distant lands. Prepare for battle, and be shattered! Prepare for battle, and be shattered!

10 Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.

11 This is what the LORD says to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people:

12 “Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.

13 The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.

14 He will be a holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

15 Many of them will stumble; they will fall and be broken, they will be snared and captured.”

16 Bind up this testimony of warning and seal up God’s instruction among my disciples.

17 I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my trust in him.

18 Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.

19 When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?

20 Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

21 Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God.

22 Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.
