1 Wǒde dìxiōng men , búyào duō rén zuò shīfu , yīnwei xiǎodé wǒmen yào shòu gèng de pànduàn .
1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
2 Yuánlái wǒmen zaì xǔduō shì shang dōu yǒu guò shī . ruò yǒu rén zaì huà yǔ shang méiyǒu guò shī , tā jiù shì wánquán rén , yĕ néng lēi zhù zìjǐ de quán shēn .
2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
3 Wǒmen ruò bǎ jiaóhuán fàng zaì mǎ zuǐlǐ , jiào tā shùnfú , jiù néng diàodòng tāde quán shēn .
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
4 Kàn nǎ , chuán zhī suīrán shèn dà , yòu beì dà fēng cuībī , zhǐ yòng xiǎo xiǎo de duò , jiù suí zhe zhǎngduò de yìsi zhuàndòng:zhuǎndòng .
4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
5 Zhèyàng , shétou zaì bǎi tǐ lǐ yĕ shì zuì xiǎo de , què néng shuō dàhuà . kàn nǎ , zuì xiǎo de huǒ néng diǎn zhaó zuì dà de shùlín .
5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
6 Shétou jiù shì huǒ , zaì wǒmen bǎi tǐ zhōng , shétou shì ge zuìè de shìjiè , néng wūhuì quán shēn , yĕ néng bǎ shēngmìng de lúnzi diǎn qǐlai , bìngqiĕ shì cóng dìyù lǐ diǎn zhe de .
6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7 Gè leì de zǒushòu , fēi qín , kūnchóng , shuǐzú , bĕnlái dōu kĕyǐ zhìfú , yĕ yǐjing beì rén zhìfú le .
7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind,
8 Wéidú shétou méiyǒu rén néng zhìfú , shì bù zhǐxī de ĕ wù , mǎn le haì sǐ rén de dúqì .
8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Wǒmen yòng shétou sòngzàn nà wéi zhǔ wéi fù de , yòu yòng shétou zhòuzǔ nà zhào zhe shén xíngxiàng beì zào de rén .
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10 Sòngzàn hé zhòuzǔ cóng yī ge kǒu lǐ chūlai , wǒde dìxiōng men , zhè shì bù yīngdāng de .
10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
11 Quányuán cóng yī ge yǎn lǐ néng fāchū tián kǔ liǎngyàng de shuǐ ma .
11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
12 Wǒde dìxiōng men , wúhuāguǒ shù néng shēng gǎnlǎn ma , pútàoshù néng jiē wúhuāguǒ ma . xián shuǐ lǐ yĕ bùnéng fāchū tián shuǐ lái .
12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
13 Nǐmen zhōngjiān yǒu zhìhuì yǒu jiànshi de ne . tā jiù dāng zaì zhìhuì de wēnróu shang , xiǎn chū tāde shàn xíng lái .
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
14 Nǐmen xīnli ruò huái zhe kǔ dú de jídù hé fēn zhēng , jiù bùkĕ zì kuā , yĕ bùkĕ shuōhuǎng huà dǐdǎng zhēn dào .
14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.
15 Zhèyàng de zhìhuì , bù shì cóng shàng tóu lái de , nǎi shì shǔ dì de , shǔ qíngyù de , shǔ guǐ mó de .
15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
16 Zaì héchu yǒu jídù fēn zhēng , jiù zaì héchu yǒu rǎoluàn , hé gèyàng de huaì shì .
16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 Wéidú cóng shàng tóu lái de zhìhuì , xiān shì qīngjié , hòu shì hépíng , wēn liáng róushùn , mǎn yǒu liánmǐn , duō jiē shàn guǒ , méiyǒu piānjiàn , méiyǒu jiǎmào .
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
18 Bìngqiĕ shǐ rén hépíng de , shì yòng hépíng suǒ zāizhòng de yì guǒ .
18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
