1 A Jeremías se le prohíbe casarse<br />El Señor<br /> me dio otro mensaje:

2 «No te cases ni tengas hijos en este lugar.

3 Pues esto dice el Señor<br /> acerca de los niños nacidos en esta ciudad y de sus madres y padres:

4 morirán de enfermedades terribles. Nadie llorará por ellos ni tampoco los enterrarán sino que yacerán dispersos sobre el suelo como si fueran estiércol. Morirán por la guerra y morirán de hambre, y sus cuerpos serán comida para los buitres y los animales salvajes».

5 Se acerca el castigo a Judá<br />Esto dice el Señor<br />: «No vayas a los funerales para llorar y mostrar compasión por ellos, porque he retirado mi protección y mi paz de ellos; he quitado mi amor inagotable y mi misericordia.

6 Tanto el grande como el humilde morirán en esta tierra. Nadie los enterrará ni se lamentará por ellos. Sus amigos no se cortarán la piel ni se afeitarán la cabeza en señal de tristeza.

7 Nadie ofrecerá una comida para consolar a quienes estén de luto por un muerto, ni siquiera por la muerte de una madre o de un padre. Nadie enviará una copa de vino para consolarlos.

8 »No vayas a sus fiestas ni a sus banquetes. Ni siquiera comas o bebas con ellos.

9 Pues esto dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales, Dios de Israel: en sus propios días y ante sus propios ojos pondré fin a las risas y a las canciones alegres en esta tierra. Ya no se oirán las voces felices de los novios ni de las novias.

10 »Cuando le digas todas estas cosas a la gente, ellos te preguntarán: “¿Por qué el Señor<br /> decretó cosas tan terribles contra nosotros? ¿Qué hemos hecho para merecer semejante trato? ¿Cuál es nuestro pecado contra el Señor<br /> nuestro Dios?”.

11 »Entonces les darás la respuesta del Señor<br />: “Es porque sus antepasados me fueron infieles y rindieron culto a otros dioses y los sirvieron. Me abandonaron y no obedecieron mi palabra.

12 ¡Y ustedes son peores que sus antepasados! Se pusieron tercos y siguen sus propios malos deseos y rehúsan escucharme.

13 Por lo tanto, los expulsaré de esta tierra y los enviaré a una tierra extraña en la que ni ustedes ni sus antepasados han estado. Allí podrán rendir culto a ídolos día y noche, y ¡no les concederé ningún favor!”.

14 Esperanza a pesar del desastre<br />»Por tanto, se acerca la hora —dice el Señor<br />—, cuando la gente que haga un juramento ya no dirá: “Tan cierto como que el Señor<br /> vive, quien rescató al pueblo de Israel de la tierra de Egipto”.

15 En cambio, dirán: “Tan cierto como que el Señor<br /> vive, quien trajo a Israel de regreso a su propia tierra desde la tierra del norte y de todos los países a donde él los envió al destierro”. Pues los traeré nuevamente a esta tierra que les di a sus antepasados.

16 »Ahora mandaré llamar a muchos pescadores para que los capturen —dice el Señor<br />—. Mandaré llamar a cazadores para que los cacen en los montes, en las colinas y en las cuevas.

17 Los vigilo de cerca y veo cada pecado. No hay esperanza de que se escondan de mí.

18 Duplicaré su castigo por todos sus pecados, porque han contaminado mi tierra con las imágenes sin vida de sus detestables dioses y han llenado mi territorio con sus hechos malignos».

19 Oración de confianza de Jeremías<br />S<br />, ¡tú eres mi fuerza y mi fortaleza,<br />mi refugio en el día de aflicción!<br />Las naciones del mundo entero<br />vendrán a ti y te dirán:<br />«Nuestros antepasados nos han dejado una herencia despreciable,<br />porque rendían culto a ídolos inútiles.

20 ¿Acaso puede la gente hacer sus propios dioses?<br />¡Esos no son dioses verdaderos en absoluto!».

21 El Señor<br /> dice:<br />«Ahora les mostraré mi poder;<br />ahora les mostraré mi fuerza.<br />Al fin sabrán y entenderán<br />que yo soy el Señor<br />.

New International Version NIV

1 Then the word of the LORD came to me:

2 “You must not marry and have sons or daughters in this place.”

3 For this is what the LORD says about the sons and daughters born in this land and about the women who are their mothers and the men who are their fathers:

4 “They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried but will be like dung lying on the ground. They will perish by sword and famine, and their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.”

5 For this is what the LORD says: “Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity from this people,” declares the LORD.

6 “Both high and low will die in this land. They will not be buried or mourned, and no one will cut themselves or shave their head for the dead.

7 No one will offer food to comfort those who mourn for the dead—not even for a father or a mother—nor will anyone give them a drink to console them.

8 “And do not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down to eat and drink.

9 For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in this place.

10 “When you tell these people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the LORD decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the LORD our God?’

11 then say to them, ‘It is because your ancestors forsook me,’ declares the LORD, ‘and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law.

12 But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me.

13 So I will throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’

14 “However, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when it will no longer be said, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,’

15 but it will be said, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.’ For I will restore them to the land I gave their ancestors.

16 “But now I will send for many fishermen,” declares the LORD, “and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks.

17 My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes.

18 I will repay them double for their wickedness and their sin, because they have defiled my land with the lifeless forms of their vile images and have filled my inheritance with their detestable idols.”

19 LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, “Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.

20 Do people make their own gods? Yes, but they are not gods!”

21 “Therefore I will teach them— this time I will teach them my power and might. Then they will know that my name is the LORD.
