John 19:38-42

NLT 38 Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take down Jesus’ body. When Pilate gave permission, Joseph came and took the body away. NIV 38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. NLT 39 With him came Nicodemus, the man who had come to Jesus at night. He brought about seventy-five pounds of perfumed ointment made from myrrh and aloes. NIV 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. NLT 40 Following Jewish burial custom, they wrapped Jesus’ body with the spices in long sheets of linen cloth. NIV 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. NLT 41 The place of crucifixion was near a garden, where there was a new tomb, never used before. NIV 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. NLT 42 And so, because it was the day of preparation for the Jewish Passover and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there. NIV 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
