John 8:1-11

CEB 1 And Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. NRS 1 while Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. CEB 2 Early in the morning he returned to the temple. All the people gathered around him, and he sat down and taught them. NRS 2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him and he sat down and began to teach them. CEB 3 The legal experts and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery. Placing her in the center of the group, NRS 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery; and making her stand before all of them, CEB 4 they said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. NRS 4 they said to him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. CEB 5 In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone women like this. What do you say?" NRS 5 Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" CEB 6 They said this to test him, because they wanted a reason to bring an accusation against him. Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger. NRS 6 They said this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. CEB 7 They continued to question him, so he stood up and replied, "Whoever hasn't sinned should throw the first stone." NRS 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." CEB 8 Bending down again, he wrote on the ground. NRS 8 And once again he bent down and wrote on the ground. CEB 9 Those who heard him went away, one by one, beginning with the elders. Finally, only Jesus and the woman were left in the middle of the crowd. NRS 9 When they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the elders; and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. CEB 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Is there no one to condemn you?" NRS 10 Jesus straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" CEB 11 She said, "No one, sir." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on, don't sin anymore." NRS 11 She said, "No one, sir." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again."]
