Joshua 24:14-25

CEB 14 “So now, revere the LORD. Serve him honestly and faithfully. Put aside the gods that your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt and serve the LORD. NRS 14 "Now therefore revere the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. CEB 15 But if it seems wrong in your opinion to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Choose the gods whom your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live. But my family and I will serve the LORD." NRS 15 Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." CEB 16 Then the people answered, "God forbid that we ever leave the LORD to serve other gods! NRS 16 Then the people answered, "Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods; CEB 17 The LORD is our God. He is the one who brought us and our ancestors up from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. He has done these mighty signs in our sight. He has protected us the whole way we've gone and in all the nations through which we've passed. NRS 17 for it is the Lord our God who brought us and our ancestors up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight. He protected us along all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed; CEB 18 The LORD has driven out all the nations before us, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because he is our God." NRS 18 and the Lord drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve the Lord, for he is our God." CEB 19 Then Joshua said to the people, "You can't serve the LORD, because he is a holy God. He is a jealous God. He won't forgive your rebellion and your sins. NRS 19 But Joshua said to the people, "You cannot serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. CEB 20 If you leave the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn around and do you harm and finish you off, in spite of having done you good in the past." NRS 20 If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after having done you good." CEB 21 Then the people said to Joshua, "No! The LORD is the one we will serve." NRS 21 And the people said to Joshua, "No, we will serve the Lord!" CEB 22 So Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD." They said, "We are witnesses!" NRS 22 Then Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord, to serve him." And they said, "We are witnesses." CEB 23 "So now put aside the foreign gods that are among you. Focus your hearts on the LORD, the God of Israel." NRS 23 He said, "Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel." CEB 24 The people said to Joshua, "We will serve the LORD our God and will obey him." NRS 24 The people said to Joshua, "The Lord our God we will serve, and him we will obey." CEB 25 On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people and established just rule for them at Shechem. NRS 25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made statutes and ordinances for them at Shechem.
