Joshua 5:1-12

LXX 1 And it came to pass when the kings of the Amorites who were beyond Jordan heard, and the kings of Phoenicia by the sea, that the Lord God had dried up the river Jordan from before the children of Israel when they passed over, that their hearts failed, and they were terror-stricken, and there was no sense in them because of the children of Israel. NIV 1 Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the LORD had dried up the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted in fear and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites. LXX 2 And about this time the Lord said to Joshua, Make thee stone knives of sharp stone, and sit down and circumcise the children of Israel the second time. NIV 2 At that time the LORD said to Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again.” LXX 3 And Joshua made sharp knives of stone, and circumcised the children of Israel at the place called the “Hill of Foreskins.” NIV 3 So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath Haaraloth. LXX 4 And the way in which Joshua purified the children of Israel; as many as were born in the way, and as many as were uncircumcised of them that came out of Egypt, NIV 4 Now this is why he did so: All those who came out of Egypt—all the men of military age—died in the wilderness on the way after leaving Egypt. LXX 5 all these Joshua circumcised; for forty and two years Israel wondered in the wilderness of Mabdaris— NIV 5 All the people that came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness during the journey from Egypt had not. LXX 6 Wherefore most of the fighting men that came out of the land of Egypt, were uncircumcised, who disobeyed the commands of God; concerning whom also he determined that they should not see the land, which the Lord sware to give to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey. NIV 6 The Israelites had moved about in the wilderness forty years until all the men who were of military age when they left Egypt had died, since they had not obeyed the LORD. For the LORD had sworn to them that they would not see the land he had solemnly promised their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. LXX 7 And in their place he raised up their sons, whom Joshua circumcised, because they were uncircumcised, having been born by the way. NIV 7 So he raised up their sons in their place, and these were the ones Joshua circumcised. They were still uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised on the way. LXX 8 And when they had been circumcised they rested continuing there in the camp till they were healed. NIV 8 And after the whole nation had been circumcised, they remained where they were in camp until they were healed. LXX 9 And the Lord said to Joshua the son of Naue, On this day have I removed the reproach of Egypt from you: and he called the name of that place Galgala. NIV 9 Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” So the place has been called Gilgal to this day. LXX 10 And the children of Israel kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, to the westward of Jericho on the opposite side of the Jordan in the plain. NIV 10 On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover. LXX 11 And they ate of the grain of the earth unleavened and new . NIV 11 The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. LXX 12 In this day the manna failed, after they had eaten of the corn of the land, and the children of Israel no longer had manna: and they took the fruits of the land of the Phoenicians in that year. NIV 12 The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan.
