1 Yàbǐmǐlè yǐhòu , yǒu Yǐsàjiā rén duǒ duō de sūnzi , Pǔwǎ de érzi Tuólā xīngqǐ , zhĕngjiù Yǐsèliè rén . tā zhù zaì Yǐfǎlián shān dì de shā mì .

After the time of Abimelek, a man of Issachar named Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, rose to save Israel. He lived in Shamir, in the hill country of Ephraim.
2 Tuólā zuò Yǐsèliè de shì shī èr shí sān nián , jiù sǐ le , zàng zaì shā mì .

He led Israel twenty-three years; then he died, and was buried in Shamir.

He was followed by Jair of Gilead, who led Israel twenty-two years.

He had thirty sons, who rode thirty donkeys. They controlled thirty towns in Gilead, which to this day are called Havvoth Jair.

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites and the gods of the Philistines. And because the Israelites forsook the LORD and no longer served him,

he became angry with them. He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites,
8 Cóng nà nián qǐ , tāmen rǎo haì qīyē Yuēdànhé nàbiān , zhù Yàmólìrén zhī Jīliè dì de Yǐsèliè rén , gōng yǒu shí bā nián .

who that year shattered and crushed them. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites on the east side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.
9 Yàmén rén yòu dù guō Yuēdànhé qù gōngdǎ Yóudà hé Biànyǎmǐn , bìng Yǐfǎlián zú . Yǐsèliè rén jiù shén jué jiǒng pò .

The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin and Ephraim; Israel was in great distress.
10 Yǐsèliè rén āi qiú Yēhéhuá shuō , wǒmen dé zuì le nǐ . yīnwei lí qì le wǒmen shén , qù shìfèng zhū bā lì .

Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, “We have sinned against you, forsaking our God and serving the Baals.”
11 Yēhéhuá duì Yǐsèliè rén shuō , wǒ qǐ méiyǒu jiù guō nǐmen tuōlí Āijí rén , Yàmólìrén , Yàmén rén , hé Fēilìshì rén ma .

The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,
12 Xīdùn rén , Yàmǎlì rén , mǎ yún rén yĕ dōu qīyē nǐmen . nǐmen āi qiú wǒ , wǒ yĕ zhĕngjiù nǐmen tuōlí tāmende shǒu .

the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands?
13 Nǐmen jìng lí qì wǒ , shìfèng bié shén . suǒyǐ wǒ bú zaì jiù nǐmen le .

But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you.
14 Nǐmen qù āi qiú suǒ xuǎnzé de shén . nǐmen zāoyù jí nán de shíhou , ràng tā jiù nǐmen ba .

Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!”
15 Yǐsèliè rén duì Yēhéhuá shuō , wǒmen fàn zuì le , rènpíng nǐ suíyì dāi wǒmen ba . zhǐ qiú nǐ jīnrì zhĕngjiù wǒmen .

But the Israelites said to the LORD, “We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now.”
16 Yǐsèliè rén jiù chúdiào tāmen zhōngjiān de waì bāng shén , shìfèng Yēhéhuá . Yēhéhuá yīn Yǐsèliè rén shòu de kǔnàn , jiù xīn zhōng dān yōu .

Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the LORD. And he could bear Israel’s misery no longer.
17 Dāngshí Yàmén rén jùjí , ān yíng zaì Jīliè . Yǐsèliè rén yĕ jùjí , ān yíng zaì Mǐsībā .

When the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.
18 Jīliè de mín hé zhòng shǒulǐng bǐcǐ shāngyì shuō , shuí néng xiān qù gōngdǎ Yàmén rén , shuí bì zuò Jīliè yīqiè jūmín de lǐng xiù .

The leaders of the people of Gilead said to each other, “Whoever will take the lead in attacking the Ammonites will be head over all who live in Gilead.”
