1 Efraín lucha con Jefté<br />Luego los hombres de Efraín movilizaron a un ejército y cruzaron el río Jordán hasta Zafón. Entonces enviaron el siguiente mensaje a Jefté:<br />—¿Por qué no nos llamaste para que te ayudáramos a luchar contra los amonitas? ¡Quemaremos tu casa contigo adentro!

The Ephraimite forces were called out, and they crossed over to Zaphon. They said to Jephthah, “Why did you go to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We’re going to burn down your house over your head.”
2 Jefté respondió:<br />—¡Yo los convoqué cuando comenzó el conflicto, pero ustedes se negaron a venir! No quisieron ayudarnos a luchar contra Amón.

Jephthah answered, “I and my people were engaged in a great struggle with the Ammonites, and although I called, you didn’t save me out of their hands.
3 De modo que, al ver que no vendrían, arriesgué mi vida y salí a combatir sin ustedes, y el Señor<br /> me dio la victoria sobre los amonitas. Así que, ¿por qué vienen ahora a pelear conmigo?

When I saw that you wouldn’t help, I took my life in my hands and crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the LORD gave me the victory over them. Now why have you come up today to fight me?”
4 La gente de Efraín contestó:<br />—Ustedes, los de Galaad, no son más que fugitivos de Efraín y de Manasés.<br />Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los hombres de Galaad, atacó a los hombres de Efraín y los derrotó.

Jephthah then called together the men of Gilead and fought against Ephraim. The Gileadites struck them down because the Ephraimites had said, “You Gileadites are renegades from Ephraim and Manasseh.”

The Gileadites captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead asked him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he replied, “No,”
6 ellos le pedían que pronunciara la palabra shibolet. Si era de Efraín, diría sibolet, porque a la gente de Efraín le cuesta pronunciar bien esa palabra. Entonces se lo llevaban y lo mataban en los vados del Jordán. En total mataron a cuarenta y dos mil de la tribu de Efraín en esos días.

they said, “All right, say ‘Shibboleth.’ ” If he said, “Sibboleth,” because he could not pronounce the word correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time.
7 Jefté fue juez de Israel durante seis años. Cuando murió, lo enterraron en una de las ciudades de Galaad.

Jephthah led Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in a town in Gilead.
8 Ibzán, juez de Israel<br />Después de la muerte de Jefté, Ibzán, de Belén, fue juez de Israel.

After him, Ibzan of Bethlehem led Israel.
9 Tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas. Envió a sus hijas a casarse con hombres que no pertenecían a su clan, y trajo treinta mujeres jóvenes que tampoco eran de su clan para que se casaran con sus hijos. Ibzán fue juez de Israel durante siete años.

He had thirty sons and thirty daughters. He gave his daughters away in marriage to those outside his clan, and for his sons he brought in thirty young women as wives from outside his clan. Ibzan led Israel seven years.

Then Ibzan died and was buried in Bethlehem.

After him, Elon the Zebulunite led Israel ten years.

Then Elon died and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
13 Abdón, juez de Israel<br />Después de la muerte de Elón, fue juez de Israel Abdón, hijo de Hilel, de Piratón.

After him, Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, led Israel.

He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. He led Israel eight years.

Then Abdon son of Hillel died and was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
