1 Yǐsèliè rén zaì Mǐsībā céng qǐshì shuō , wǒmen dōu bú jiāng nǚér gĕi Biànyǎmǐn rén wèi qī .

The men of Israel had taken an oath at Mizpah: “Not one of us will give his daughter in marriage to a Benjamite.”
2 Yǐsèliè rén lái dào Bótèlì , zuò zaì shén miànqián zhídào wǎnshang , fàng shēng tòngkū ,

The people went to Bethel, where they sat before God until evening, raising their voices and weeping bitterly.
3 Shuō , Yēhéhuá Yǐsèliè de shén a , wèihé Yǐsèliè zhōng yǒu zhèyàng quē le yī zhīpaì de shì ne .

“LORD, God of Israel,” they cried, “why has this happened to Israel? Why should one tribe be missing from Israel today?”
4 Cì rì qīngzǎo , bǎixìng qǐlai , zaì nàli zhú le yī zuò tán , xiàn Fánjì hépíng ān jì .

Early the next day the people built an altar and presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings.
5 Yǐsèliè rén bǐcǐ wèn shuō , Yǐsèliè gè zhīpaì zhōng , shuí méiyǒu tóng huì zhòng shàng dào Yēhéhuá miànqián lái ne . xiān shì Yǐsèliè rén qǐ guō dà shì shuō , fán bú shàng Mǐsībā dào Yēhéhuá miànqián lái de , bìjiāng tā zhìsǐ .

Then the Israelites asked, “Who from all the tribes of Israel has failed to assemble before the LORD?” For they had taken a solemn oath that anyone who failed to assemble before the LORD at Mizpah was to be put to death.
6 Yǐsèliè rén wèi tāmende dìxiōng Biànyǎmǐn hòuhuǐ , shuō , rújīn Yǐsèliè zhōng jué le yī gè zhīpaì le .

Now the Israelites grieved for the tribe of Benjamin, their fellow Israelites. “Today one tribe is cut off from Israel,” they said.
7 Wǒmen jì zaì Yēhéhuá miànqián qǐshì shuō , bì bú jiāng wǒmen de nǚér gĕi Biànyǎmǐn rén wèi qī , xiànzaì wǒmen dāng zĕnyàng bànlǐ , shǐ tāmen shèngxia de rén yǒu qī ne .

“How can we provide wives for those who are left, since we have taken an oath by the LORD not to give them any of our daughters in marriage?”
8 Yòu bǐcǐ wèn shuō , Yǐsèliè zhīpaì zhōng shuí méiyǒu shàng Mǐsībā dào Yēhéhuá miànqián lái ne . tāmen jiù chá chū Jīliè yǎ bǐ méiyǒu yī rén jìn yíng dào huì zhòng nàli .

Then they asked, “Which one of the tribes of Israel failed to assemble before the LORD at Mizpah?” They discovered that no one from Jabesh Gilead had come to the camp for the assembly.
9 Yīnwei bǎixìng beì shǔ de shíhou , méiyǒu yī gè Jīliè yǎ bǐ rén zaì nàli .

For when they counted the people, they found that none of the people of Jabesh Gilead were there.
10 Huì zhòng jiù dǎfa yī wàn èr qiā dà yǒng shì , fēnfu tāmen shuō , nǐmen qù yòng dāo jiāng Jīliè yǎ bǐ rén lián fùnǚ daì háizi dōu jī shā le .

So the assembly sent twelve thousand fighting men with instructions to go to Jabesh Gilead and put to the sword those living there, including the women and children.
11 Suǒ dāng xíng de jiù shì zhèyàng , yào jiāng yīqiè nánzǐ hé yǐ jià de nǚzi jìn xíng shā lù .

“This is what you are to do,” they said. “Kill every male and every woman who is not a virgin.”
12 Tāmen zaì Jīliè yǎ bǐ rén zhōng , yùjiàn le sì bǎi gè wèi jià de chǔnǚ , jiù daì dào Jiānán dì de Shìluó yíng lǐ .

They found among the people living in Jabesh Gilead four hundred young women who had never slept with a man, and they took them to the camp at Shiloh in Canaan.

Then the whole assembly sent an offer of peace to the Benjamites at the rock of Rimmon.

So the Benjamites returned at that time and were given the women of Jabesh Gilead who had been spared. But there were not enough for all of them.
15 Bǎixìng wèi Biànyǎmǐn rén hòuhuǐ , yīnwei Yēhéhuá shǐ Yǐsèliè rén quē le yī gè zhīpaì ( yuánwén zuò shǐ Yǐsèliè zhōng yǒu le pò kǒu ) .

The people grieved for Benjamin, because the LORD had made a gap in the tribes of Israel.
16 Huì zhōng de zhǎnglǎo shuō , Biànyǎmǐn zhōng de nǚzi jìrán chúmiĕ le , wǒmen dāng zĕnyàng bànlǐ , shǐ nà yú shèng de rén yǒu qī ne .

And the elders of the assembly said, “With the women of Benjamin destroyed, how shall we provide wives for the men who are left?
17 Yòu shuō , Biànyǎmǐn taótuō de rén dāng yǒu dì yè , miǎndé Yǐsèliè zhōng túmǒ le yī gè zhīpaì .

The Benjamite survivors must have heirs,” they said, “so that a tribe of Israel will not be wiped out.
18 Zhǐshì wǒmen bùnéng jiāng zìjǐ de nǚér gĕi tāmen wèi qī . yīnwei Yǐsèliè rén céng qǐshì shuō , yǒu jiāng nǚér gĕi Biànyǎmǐn rén wèi qī de , bì shòu zhòuzǔ .

We can’t give them our daughters as wives, since we Israelites have taken this oath: ‘Cursed be anyone who gives a wife to a Benjamite.’
19 Tāmen yòu shuō , zaì lì bō ná yǐ nán , Bótèlì yǐ bĕi , zaì Shìjiàn dà lù Yǐdōng de Shìluó , nián nián yǒu Yēhéhuá de jiéqī .

But look, there is the annual festival of the LORD in Shiloh, which lies north of Bethel, east of the road that goes from Bethel to Shechem, and south of Lebonah.”
20 Jiù fēnfu Biànyǎmǐn rén shuō , nǐmen qù , zaì pútaóyuán zhōng máifu .

So they instructed the Benjamites, saying, “Go and hide in the vineyards
21 Ruò kànjian Shìluó de nǚzi chūlai tiàowǔ , jiù cóng pútaóyuán chūlai , zaì Shìluó de nǚzi zhōng gè qiǎng yī gè wèi qī, huí Biànyǎmǐn dì qù .

and watch. When the young women of Shiloh come out to join in the dancing, rush from the vineyards and each of you seize one of them to be your wife. Then return to the land of Benjamin.
22 Tāmende fùqin huò shì dìxiōng ruò lái yǔ wǒmen zhēngjing , wǒmen jiù shuō , qiú nǐmen kàn wǒmen de qíngmian , shī ēn gĕi zhèxie rén , yīn wǒmen zaì zhēng zhàn de shíhou méiyǒu gĕi tāmen liú xià nǚzi wèi qī . zhè yĕ bú shì nǐmen jiāng nǚzi gĕi tāmende . ruò shì nǐmen gĕi de , jiù suàn yǒu zuì .

When their fathers or brothers complain to us, we will say to them, ‘Do us the favor of helping them, because we did not get wives for them during the war. You will not be guilty of breaking your oath because you did not give your daughters to them.’ ”
23 Yúshì Biànyǎmǐn rén zhàoyàng ér xíng , àn zhe tāmende shùmù cóng tiàowǔ de nǚzi zhōng qiǎng qù wèi qī , jiù huí zìjǐ de ì yè qù , yòu chóng xiū chéngyì jūzhù .

So that is what the Benjamites did. While the young women were dancing, each man caught one and carried her off to be his wife. Then they returned to their inheritance and rebuilt the towns and settled in them.
24 Dāngshí Yǐsèliè rén líkāi nàli , gè guī bĕn zhīpaì , bĕn zōngzú , bĕn dì yè qù le .

At that time the Israelites left that place and went home to their tribes and clans, each to his own inheritance.
25 Nàshí , Yǐsèliè zhōng méiyǒu wáng , gèrén rènyì ér xíng .

In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.
